Men’s Oppressive Beliefs Predict Their Breast Size Preferences in Women

I always assumed this was the case, but it's nice to have some scientific backing.

Results showed that medium breasts were rated most frequent as attractive (32.7 %), followed by large (24.4 %) and very large (19.1 %) breasts.

Strange, then, that almost all models have breasts well below the "medium" size.

Men tend not to find models all that attractive, though. They tend to find actresses attractive who usually have about a C-cup.

Wot? Men salivate over Milla Jovovich and she's almost as flat as I am.

The models that are below the "medium" size are fashion models geared more towards women, not men.

The rail-thin models I think you're talking about are usually selected for two reasons: to be a living clothes rack (and therefore limited curves and bumps to interfere with shape), and to look ideal to women. Victoria's Secret models are a better example of models selected to look attractive to men--although I've heard they are often selected for appealing personalities for women, too.

A bit OT but that makes a lot of sense. Before she annoyed me with her talk show and ANTM, I thought Tyra Banks was the perfect model for Victoria's Secret for the very reasons of her body type being the the type most men would find attractive and she also had a personality that was appealing to women. BTW I still like Tyra Banks, but to a degree.

I wonder if women's breast size preferences indicate the same things! I could read the article and find out if men who share my size preference sound like me, but

wait no what am i saying i don't need to look at this article to know it has no scientific backing whatsoever

Sample groups too small. The best you can extropolate with this is that british men's oppressive beliefs predict their breast size preferences in women.

This would likely not work so well applies to say, south American men, for whom the rear would be more significant.

In short, check your Eurocentric privilege.

what in god's name has this to do with "privilege"?

Can only access the abstract, not the full article so this may be covered - I'm curious to what extent this paper controlled for class.

I've seen a preference a lot of my more working class friends and colleagues have towards really endowed, and much heavier women then my college and more middle-class friends would be interested in.

And the former group have more regressive views in general.

It does seem like they'd control for that though.

A sample of 361 white British men does not any legitimate correlation make.

lol no

thats enough to be considered a statistically valid sample

there may be critiques to make but u clearly dont have the background to make them

30,000,000 men in the UK
Sample size of 360

Yeah, that's totes sound.

Re: Men’s Oppressive Beliefs Predict Their Breast Size Preferences in Women

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Providing that the sample is representative of the population it's seeking to measure (e.g. white, British males) 361 is an adaquate size to draw inferences from. If your methodology is sound and you observe a significant correlation in a representative sample of that size then it's highly probable that the your findings can be generalised to the population you're sampling from (though trying to discern what a correlation indicates can be a rather more difficult matter). I'd have to read the article in full to judge the quality of the methodology and statistical techniques used, but the sample size itself isn't a problem.

It is if we're supposed to extrapolate to "men", rather than "white, British men", though, which we seem to be supposed to do, considering the title of the article.

So not only am I considered a slut because of my breast size, but now I'm the least attractive group as well. This is doing wonders for the self esteem.

Well, if it's of any comfort to you, the men who would judge you like that are not men you'd want to be associated with anyway. Hugs, if you want them!

No, the below-mediums were the least attractive group.

The sample size is too small and too selective. But if you want some useless anecdotal evidence, a lot of decent guys I know don't care about boob size.

Re: Men’s Oppressive Beliefs Predict Their Breast Size Preferences in Women

lol no. That's an unrepresentative sample if I've ever seen one.

There are people of different ethnicities in Britain, you know.

Well, shit. I thought all I really had going was my huge boobs but that means I'll most likely end up with a sexist pig. =(

Only if you choose to settle for the sexist pig.
