Hey, whatever works. People disagree quiiiiite strongly over this one, but personally I love the way Dean seems to have come to realize that love is more about the individual and your experiences together rather than gender.

Oooh, really? What happened? I'm way behind on the show but that sounds really interesting!

Well, I mean, nothing extremely specific; it's not officially canon that he goes both ways or anything, but I have this whole long screed that I've been meaning to post on Tumblr or something, but basically I think S1!Dean would've reacted strongly to the idea of being romantic or sexual with a dude, because that's the society he lives in and he had all these traditional ideas of masculinity or whatever (largely from John, I'd think), but now? Now that he's literally been to Heaven, Hell and Purgatory, I cannot imagine how anything as trivial as gender 'norms' and the parameters of sexual orientation and stuff could matter much to him anymore. I think one of the big themes of the show is how the boys are basically all about saving & protecting humanity, and yet they're really really increasingly distanced from it and can't identify with most people in a normal way because of everything they've been through and seen. So on the one hand it's awesome that Dean's moving away from caring about society's dumb rules, and on the other hand it's actually quite sad. And we've also seen really remarkably strong scenes of love between Dean & Cas (and Sam, of course, but it's a different kind of love) and I think it's just all about gray areas now. There's a really good essay (way better than this one >_____>) going around Tumblr about how the writers really do seem to be suggesting that Dean is bisexual or slowly realizing that he is or whatever and why, and it's awesome.

Ahhh, ok. I've seen stuff like that floating around for a few years now (I even remember a "Dean is bi" essay as early as S4 although back then all the "evidence" or whatever was based on his and Sam's relationship) but I wasn't sure if it'd become canon or not since the last time I'd actually watched the show. Would you happen to have a link to that Tumblr essay? It's been awhile since I've ventured into the fandom so I haven't seen it.

I've never been a huge Dean/Cas fan I kind of hate to out myself as one of them but...I've always been more of a Dean/Sam girl myself. I swear I'm not one of the psychotic ones, though! :p but it still sounds like a really interesting direction for the show to go in. I need to get caught up soon!

Haha, well, I'm not necessarily afraid of it so much as I just know it's not really a popular pairing anymore. (I could be wrong since I've been out of the fandom for so long but from what I can tell it seems like most of its fans have disappeared.)
