I loved Catching Fire. In many ways, it is better than the Hunger Games in terms of writing. There are new, compelling characters, an actual puzzle, and it really widens the perspective on the Games themselves and on the world Katniss lives in - namely, the other districts and the other tributes. However, the end felt a bit rushed, a bit too "to read the rest, see you in book 3!". Mockingjay though... Mockingjay has me pulling my hair. Too dark, too sadistic, almost, even though there are good ideas, very good, even. Also too much dwelling on love triangles, and Peeta never did grow on me and Gale... well, you'll see for yourself.

That's why I only bought the Hunger Games and borrowed the other two before I started reading the series, so I could pretend the first book stood on its own. That said: I'm really looking forward to the Catching Fire film. I enjoyed the book and it could be a really great movie.

Oooh, you make it sound fantastic. (From this comment it sounds better than Hunger Games. Hunger Games was good but felt a bit lacking in areas. Sounds like Catching Fire makes up for some of that with more characters and a larger view of the world.)

If the rest of the book is great, I think the ending falling short is more acceptable. Especially since it's the middle book in a series, you know? But I haven't read it yet so it might be a truly terrible cliffhanger, haha.

I hate love triangles, hateeeeeee. Though the 'dark and sadistic' thing...it really depends on the execution for me, but considering the premise of the series I can see how they might take it too far.

Now I want to read it... Wasn't sure what to expect, but the upcoming movie excites me!
