I generally ignore it. I didn't know about it until the year before last, and I got curious because it's all "vote for your favourites" so you'd think it was about gushing about favourite characters. But, ah, no. It's not even really about characters at all. It's about:

- size of fandoms going against each other (biggest voting pool)
- ferocity of fandoms going against each other (most psycho voters)
- bashing characters against yours (which is inherent in competition, I suppose)
- voter politics (vote for character because to do otherwise makes you a horrible person who is racist/sexist/speciesist/wrong political/whatever)

All of which I get enough of in real life without giving over fandom time I could be using to actually gush about my favourites.

If you like popularity contests and the element of competition is fun for you, have at it. I'm just ... too tired for that shit these days, really.

And god, now I sound old and bitter. When did that happen?

Yeah and it's not about favorite characters of a show either. It's about lets pick a token female to pretend to like for 1 month of the year.

You've said this many times in the comments of this secret, and I still agree with you. Except for maybe True Blood (Jessica is pretty popular) almost all the other females chosen are widely bashed/ignored by their fandoms.

Yeah I'm a broken record, probably somewhat bitter over the fact amazing female characters do get ignored most of the time and only seem to pop out during this. And a lot of the female characters that are picked make no sense at all. Take a popular fandom mentioned earlier. Supernatural, Jo is a character a minority of people would care about except for suddenly march madness.

You don't sound old and bitter, you just sound like some of the few sane people in fandom that actually want to celebrate fandom instead of ripping it apart and beating each other to death.
