Re: Least favorite season of your favorite shows
(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 12:53 am (UTC)(link)Season 6 of Supernatural. I'm not someone who believes it should have ended at 5 (and honestly I didn't like the season 5 finale as a closer) but season 6 was a mess and it took them a while to figure out what to do.
Season 7 of Buffy (with season 6 being a close second) mainly because IDGAF about the potentials and they spent far too much time on characters I didn't care about. Kennedy was also the WORST love interest Willow ever had and that's who we close the series with? No thanks.
Anything after season 5 of the Office, I just started giving up when Erin got introduced and when Jim and Pam started getting more obnoxious then loveable.
Xena after the time skip, it's been so long since I've even watched that series but I still remember how mad I was that they killed off all the greek gods and went into the future. Weren't they even in heaven and hell at one point? So dumb.
The current season of Community... it makes me sad to say but it's just not really been funny, it's not horrible, but I just don't really enjoy it as I did before Harmon left.
This list could probably go on forever so I will stop it here.
Re: Least favorite season of your favorite shows
I can't decide which one I like less: greatness sprinkled in with terribad (season 3) or goodness sprinkled in with average (season 4).
Re: Least favorite season of your favorite shows
(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 02:08 am (UTC)(link)I also liked season 3 a lot better when I rewatched it, it was weirdly depressing in my first watch but the second time around I think I caught more of the jokes.
Like in a way I do enjoy the change in tone because the characters were getting massively unlikable (which isn't a huge problem for me because I watch a lot of comedies with unlikeable characters) and I like that things are feeling a bit more grounded, I just want the jokes to hit more often then they are hitting. Forgettable is a good word for it, because I just watch the episodes and then don't really care to talk about them or see them again.
Re: Least favorite season of your favorite shows
One thing I am fond of is that I feel like I am watching season 4 get better as it goes on. Thursday's A-plot, especially the speech at the end, to me was fantastic and true, and it was really the first time this season that I said to myself "wow, that's gonna stick with me for a while." I don't usually care as much about Jeff, and I haven't really cared about his daddy issues since Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking (one of my fave eps ever tho) so I do give the show a lot of credit for pulling on my heart like that despite all the shit the show has been through recently. I feel like they're finding their footing a bit. I am sad that the season is so short, I feel like if they had been given twenty-some episodes they would really have had a chance to find their footing and shine for longer than I think they'll get a chance to now.
I feel like season 4 only has a great grasp on a few characters per episode, it doesn't feel as much like an ensemble show anymore, but again I do feel it is getting better as time goes on.
Much of the tail end of season 3 is inexcusable to me, especially Britta's character assassination and the Chang as dictator plot. I feel bad for the showrunners who have had to do damage control in season 4 because of these choices that were so out there. For me thus far season 4's greatest failings have been in trying to clean up season 3 weird choices (such as Troy/Britta) so for me I would rank season 3 as worse. . .tentatively and I say that as someone who absolutely adores a lot of season 3.
Or, well, but. . .ugh it's a hard decision. Sigh. I really won't know how to rank it until season 4 has run its course. I am still giving it the benefit of the doubt also, especially since Jeff's speech on Thursday turned me into a jelly ball of emotions. But the show could use to be funnier.
And the gay jokes need to stop like yesterday.
