Least favorite season of your favorite shows

Assuming the shows in question ran for more than one season, which season is your least favorite and why?

S7 of Supernatural. The last season of Roseanne (which I pretend doesn't exist).

Ugh, dmw didn't notice the word "least". So much for the powers of observation.

Poirot, season 11? IDK what it was - just bleak. Especially The Mystery of the Blue Train. I loved it as a book, but the screen version was one of the dullest Poirot episodes.

Season 8 of That '70s Show. I think I hated every second of that season. It was just such a mess. Donna and Randy, Randy, Fez and Jackie, the prostitute, the overuse of Leo, barely any Kelso, no Eric...just...ugh.

I guess Season 6 of Doctor Who. Just a complete and total butchering of everything that I absolutely adored about Season 5, my favorite season. River's character, Amy and Rory's romance, hammering again and again the exact same themes and lessons of Season 5.

Ditto on everything you said about Doctor Who. Although my appreciation for season 5 has kind of been diminished too by dint of feeling empty and pointless in retrospect.

Moderately controversially - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season 4.

Not that most people like 4, or anything, but calling any season worse than season 6 (which I actually liked, a lot - it spoke to my situation in life at the time) or 7 (which I hardly watched due to scheduling issues, but liked what I saw) is kind of a heresy.

How I Met Your Mother, season 5. I can't even describe everything that was a cheap and mean-spirited shitting on everything remotely meaningful about seasons 1-4. The facepalmingly poor treatment of the romantic arc was actually one of its minor problems.

Doctor Who, season 6. sugar_spun said it better than me, though I'd also add its the only season in all of Who that (apart from some glimmers in a couple of filler episodes) felt completely inwards-focused, totally uninterested in life, the universe, the human condition, people, or resonant emotions, and devoid of any actual themes or meaning that extended or connected to anything outside of the plot points.

Star Trek TNG season 1. It's not really the fact that the stories were almost all crap. It's that the tone and atmosphere and style and the whole "feel" of the show is just...ick ick, never wanna see or think about that again. Just, thank god that they found their tone because I'd have no interest in watching a show that felt like season 1 even if the stories were good.

The West Wing season 5. See HIMYM, because it's pretty much the same thing except even nastier and more insidious.

Supernatural Season 4. The introduction of angels fucked up the mythology.

Seconding this. Zachariah was really the only angel I liked. He was such a magnificent bastard. Kurt Fuller is fantastic.

Thirded. I was so confused when the angels appeared when I started catching up with SPN on TNT.

Season 7 of Gilmore Girls. In my world it doesn't exist.

Anything after season 4 of How I Met Your Mother.

I pretend than everything that happened from the point of Rory stealing a boat onward never happened, so that's season 6 gone too.

The final season of Beauty And The Beast. There were things about it I liked, don't get me wrong, but the heart and soul of the series died along with Catherine.

Angel season 4. The whole thing with Connor and Cordelia was just ... so bad that words fail me.

Buffy season 4. Not horribly bad, but horribly boring, and for me it became the point where I started losing interest in the show.

DS9 season 7. New Dax, everything connected to Gul Dukat and his little cult, and overall disappointing series finale.

Roseanne last season. It was all a dream. Yeah, I wish.

Supernatural season 4. Season 6 was far worse, but 4 was the season where the plot took a turn to a direction I didn't like.

Gargoyles: Goliath chronicles. It doesn't exist and nothing can convince me otherwise.

Lovejoy series 5. The beginning of the end. Lady Jane leaves and the whole series loses steam.

Burn Notice, S5. Anson was such a lame villain, and he was only introduced because some people were complaining about the show's "formula." Anson and the move from client of the week to serialized form was so unsatisfying to me.

Strangely enough, after Fiona was released from prison, I feel S6 was slightly better than S5, although it consisted of the characters running around Miami for about 12 episodes or so.

I agree with you about season 5, I don't mind them trying to change the formula but that season really didn't work.

Though I actually liked the Fiona in jail plot, maybe because it actually did break the formula more then what they attempted with Anson, and I kind of liked Fiona getting her own plot separate from the others.

Season 28/2 of Doctor Who. Started out enjoying it, turned into Smug Overload. I like Ten separately (mostly), I like Rose separately, I do NOT like the two of them together, it seems.

Not sure if it counts as a season, but the last third of Legend of Korra. Bolin disappears into the background, Asami is treated like shit, Mako takes a level in fuckwit, and the excellent plot they had set up, actually looking at privilege and Korra's own attitudes, disappears in favour of KORRA IS THE HERO LET'S GO STOP AMON WITHOUT EVER REALISING THERE ACTUALLY IS MAJOR INJUSTICE AROUND. I had such high hopes for it ;_;

Book two better improve or I'll stop watching.

And the Children of Earth mini-season of Torchwood, in conjunction with the season finale of season two. Congratulations, you just killed 3/5 of an ENSEMBLE which I enjoyed watching and interacting. Didn't even bother with Miracle Day after that...

I wouldn't mind at all if they retconned everything that happened in Korra (the good bits can stay but derp!Mako needs to go).

I know it only has the two seasons, but negl, I prefer the first season of Sherlock to the second. It's been a long time since I've sat down and watched them properly, but idk, I really disliked Scandal. Irene's character frustrated me, but mostly bored me to tears. Hounds was okay, but it was kind of weak, and as for Reichenbach ... I think that speaks for itself.

Series 6 of Doctor Who, it was a clusterfuck of Moffat trying to out twist himself which might have been forgivable if it didn't also contain a lot of character assassination (namely, River.)

Season 6 of Supernatural. I'm not someone who believes it should have ended at 5 (and honestly I didn't like the season 5 finale as a closer) but season 6 was a mess and it took them a while to figure out what to do.

Season 7 of Buffy (with season 6 being a close second) mainly because IDGAF about the potentials and they spent far too much time on characters I didn't care about. Kennedy was also the WORST love interest Willow ever had and that's who we close the series with? No thanks.

Anything after season 5 of the Office, I just started giving up when Erin got introduced and when Jim and Pam started getting more obnoxious then loveable.

Xena after the time skip, it's been so long since I've even watched that series but I still remember how mad I was that they killed off all the greek gods and went into the future. Weren't they even in heaven and hell at one point? So dumb.

The current season of Community... it makes me sad to say but it's just not really been funny, it's not horrible, but I just don't really enjoy it as I did before Harmon left.

This list could probably go on forever so I will stop it here.

I'm probably going against the popular fandom opinion with this but season 5 of Doctor Who (and yes, I liked many parts of season 6).

Fringe season 5 (SPOILERS AHEAD). It's a big, daring departure in format that never quite succeeds. I don't loathe it as much it as some people, but it's much grimmer in tone and is harder to watch casually/out of sequence (which is RARELY a problem for me-- I'm a huge DS9 fan after all-- but it doesn't work as well as that). For me, the switch to the majority of the storyline being told from Peter's POV rather than Olivia's was a HUGE difference. The Fringe writers stayed true to the themes of their past seasons (emotion having more power than intellect, father/son stories), but most of the fans' favorite subplots were concluded very neatly in season 4. And then everyone could tell how it was going to end: by rewriting time. AGAIN. Which is logical in-universe (and of course Fringe likes to explore alternate universes and alternate timelines), but as viewers it begins to grate when they do it for the third time in three seasons.

Bottom line/TL;DR: Because season 5 was never guaranteed, season 4 was also written as a series finale, and it makes a much more satisfying one.

Definitely 6-7 of Gilmore Girls, I just pretend those didn't happen. And most of the later SVU seasons; it kind of became a hot mess somewhere after 6 or 7. Not crazy about the later Office seasons (2-4 are the best); not at all pleased with 6-7 of Dexter...and don't get me started on S3 of Downton. Lawd.

Supernatural season where Dean kills Jewel Staite's character. Since then I can't identify with his character at all. I don't know if it got better, but it seemed so black and white and fans liked it and I was so grossed out.
