I don't turn to my TV shows to see The World Writ-Large As I Wish It Was. While I probably would have the passing thought of being glad to see more diversity (in part because I do think fictional media is generally a good temperature for what the majority is willing to accept, and in part because the first shows to really do it will always be the daring ones and that deserves some respect), I think I mostly would be irritated the pairing that had somebody I hated as half of it.

An exception would be if the OTP-half was exploring same-sex sexuality for the first time. I'm not sure why I have that exception, but I do. I think it might because 1) it feeds the fire for stories of the excluded OTP-half learning about this new side of the other OTP half.
