...I mean, assuming it IS a real anime and created within expectations, the character archetypes are really not that hard to figure out. Anybody who's watched enough anime can guess the basic character traits of them just based on their looks. And for some people, that's really all they need in order to have a ship.

I'm boggling a bit at the full-blown fandom that exploded around it, but more in an amused, "y'all cray-cray," sort of way. No point in getting your blood pressure up over some silly thing the internet latched onto and ran with. These things happen.

No this is healthy. Far too any idiots build up these elaborate fanon's based on just a little like we have now, and then they all get together and actually create a fandom before the goddamn fandom product comes out and it's the stupidest thing and everybody is bitching when their special snowflake characters in their brains don't exist in the actual media and everybody trying to get into the fandom when it's actually supposed to start gets turned off/confused as fuck.

I don't participate in it, but the fact that a fandom can spring out of something like this pretty much says everything about fandom. Do you really need more than a couple of recognizable archetypes and pretty character designs? All fandoms are all about taking a thing out of context and creating a culture around it.

1. It's not new. It's been around for almost a year now.

2. It's not a "new swimming anime". It's just a PV, and some artwork. It might not ever be turned into an actual series.

3. If it bothers you oh-so-very-much, just stay away from the fandom. I don't make a point of searching for fanworks/squee/whatever, and I almost never see people mentioning it (well, outside of FS this past week, that is).

4. Try to get yourself an imagination. They're fun!

Yeah, I'm pretty apprehensive about this thing, though it does look pretty.

If it actually does turn into a full-fledged animated series, I get the feeling that it's going to be a boring, slice-of-life dramedy and the four guys themselves are given cookie-cutter personalities (and but of course, they're all straight). But that's just me being pessimistic.

Eh, I'll still give it a shot, but like I said, it probably won't be good.

I know that feel bro. Their faces are all over my tumblr and all over my LJ and everyone is squeeing and shipping, but they know fuck all about the characters. These are probably not even characters, just a promo vid, and there will never be an anime. It makes me sick how shallow some people are, just give them a pretty face and they are already slobbering all over the keyboard and imagining all sorts of perverse sexual acts. I miss the times when shipping was actually about characters who had a deep connection, nowadays people will ship anything, starting from planets and meteorites to shit and toilet paper. Ok well, maybe not shit and toilet paper, they are not kawaii enough. Shallow and obsessed with shipping, I tell you.
