Ugh, I don't want Joanlock to happen because one of my friends won't watch it coz she's a woman. Therefore he believes they're gonna get together. I don't want his reason to be justified.

Sherlock and John on Sherlock have shown greater sexual tension and is more likely to become canon than Elementary, IMHO.

Tension or no tension, word of god is a straight up no on John/Sherlock in that series, so I don't think it's more likely at all.

That said, I'm pretty sure the Elementary showrunners have also said something along those lines? (Forgive me-- I have zero citations but my likely faulty memory.) In that case, I'm not sure I see it happening on either show.

Yes, they've said that, too. But a lot of people don't believe that they'll hold to that. If not now, then some time down the road. Frankly, I see the Sherlock writers caving before the Elementary writers, due to the campy, fannish nature of their show and the script's reliance on gay jokes between the leads.

Sherlock/John would be much more scandalous to the average viewer than Sherlock/Joan. If one of these ships were to become canon, it would definitely be the straight one, sorry to say.

[personal profile] thezmage 2013-03-14 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry to say this, but scandalousness is not the final arbiter of which ships become canon. Otherwise Will and Grace would have been a straight couple. Sherlock is a show that runs on sexual tension between the main cast, while Elementary isn't. From day one the Sherlock writers have been explicit that you're supposed to view them as a couple, they reiterate it repeatedly. Elementary does not.

Uh... no. You're mistaking no-homo jokes for... explicit canon baiting? And their "sexual tension" is regular tension filtered through your slash goggles.

Seriously I'm not sure what to do with this level of delusion

"No homo" jokes rely on you being able to see them as a couple and having sexual tension. The only other show I can remember with more of them per minute was with KD and Turk on Scrubs.

And I'm not saying that they're gonna totally make Sherlock/John canon, just that they're more likely to do so than Elementary considering that the concept of them as a couple is so centric to their frequent "no homo" jokes, which are central to the show's humor.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-14 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh... no.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-15 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
It was JD and Turk and I'm not even a giant Scrubs fan. But you're right about the number of jokes.

Yeah, word of god on X-Files was straight up Mulder/Scully will never, ever happen. It happened. But it might as well be fucking illegal for a show to be about an opposite sex duo and them not falling in love. If Elementary lasts long enough, it will happen.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-14 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly don't believe Chris Carter didn't intend to at least have heavy, heavy sexual tension between Mulder and Scully. That's bullshit. He may not have envisioned them ever getting together but I have to think that he wanted some kind of chemistry between them.

I know! I'm completely waiting for the series to be over before I start it because I don't want to get into it, and then in a couple of seasons have them get together. I don't want to invest my emotions and time into something that's just going to piss me off.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-14 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
OP

I don't want it to happen either! I'm desperate for it not to happen. But my heart won't listen...

Sherlock/Watson is my OTP and I'd be thrilled if it became canon in any of the incarnations. It'd pretty much make it clear that they're meant to be (in all incarnations) if Joanlock happened.
