TL;DR over fictional races...
Yes house elves definitely need to be treated better, this may eventually include freedom from slavery. But it needs to be done through someone who is going to respect them, listen to what they want, and help them on their own terms. Not going all "White Witch's/Wizard's Burden" on them, and treating them like they're too stupid to know any better.

I mean, she's just a kid. She doesn't have any real power. She can't actually change the world until she's a hell of a lot more mature and has learned the hard way that people aren't going to listen to her just because she says so. So I think the fact that she was willing to go against everything wizarding society told her to stand up for what she believed in is 100000X more important than the fact that the way she stood up for it was pretty immature and narrow-minded. You have to start somewhere. You don't just magically become a perfect well-balanced experienced social activist overnight. You become a mature and thoughtful person through experience and trial and error and actually growing the fuck up.
