No matter what you do/say/read/draw/enjoy/think, you will offend some SJW somewhere.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-15 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
This. Mostly because the majority of them are LOOKING for reasons to be offended and the rest are following along.

I honestly don't understand why people go out of their way to make themselves angry. It doesn't sound healthy. Then again, I wasted a few seconds of my life thinking about these idiots, so I can't cast stones.

It's...not healthy. It's definitely not.

Because being an SJW (emphasis on the W, not the SJ) isn't about making the world better, but forming a hierarchy in which you climb the ladder by a) being a member of an oppressed group or b) "calling out" other people's privilege, c) without getting called out on your own. I don't think they're actually as angry as they claim to be.

That particular brand of SJW is all about being right and being a bully and not really at all about improving anything for anyone.

They get off on being mean and bullying people, and it's all OK because they can hide behind righteous indignation. And anyone who challenges them must be an EVIL OPPRESSOR too.

Given that I effectively got bullied off ffr for events coming from my pointing out that it's not misogynist for a man to be in a fandom where the canon has women in it, I suspect they're intentionally making up most of the stuff which offends them.

Curiously, most of the SJW wank I see involves people policing the identity and language of other minorities in trivial blog posts.

“You can please some of the people some of the time all of the people some of the time some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”

On the other hand, the flip side of this is that any amount of engagement in social justice will make someone somewhere call you an SJW.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
If you actually have a legitimate point and are doing something helpful, the numbers of people who incorrectly call you such should be smaller than the number agreeing with you. Still sucks though, yeah :(

But the big difference is that if X tells Y politely why what they said is hurtful and doesn't name call or attempt to shame or call Y a bad person, then if Y says "you're an SJW!" anyone reading the thread will see that X is the reasonable one. And I know that makes it sound like it's a competition, but I mean that in the sense of someone reading is likely to learn from it, and, getting people educated sp that they want to play fairly is ultimate the goal.

Mostly, though, the arguments start because nobody likes being called out or made to look stupid/wrong/bad/less than in public (like in a forum). That's why they start trying to invalidate the other's arguments (calling you a ____ist or an SJW). I found that nine out of ten times, messaging someone privately about what they said and letting them know you're not trying to say they're a bad person just works.

The W in SJW comes when a person is more interested in scolding someone in public and getting ego points by "defeating" them in front of everyone.
