What the heck is that?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-15 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Could someone please explain to me what this meme character is?

Also, lol "reverse sexism" (re: SJW ragging on women for their sexuality). It fills the cockles of my heart with schadenfreude to know that the Tumblr SJ brigade has discovered this classic derailing technique.

Kotaku had an article about it a few months ago: http://kotaku.com/5940536/japans-meme-monster-is-somewhat-cute-and-totally-offensive

From what I understand, the following video played a big part in spreading the meme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K1IoC9iv8c

Aaaaand that's all I know.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-15 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do people get so excited about SJWs on this site?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-15 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
go look up the archives of F!S from a couple years ago on LJ and you will quickly understand

It gets a bit frustrating, doesn't it? The only time I've seen someone on FS call someone or something racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. and not get called an SJW for it is when a white actor is cast in what was originally a minority role. (Though when something's actually offensive, the people calling it offensive tend to outnumber the people calling people SJWs.)

My God, no one read this.

Maybe it's because this place used to have a lot of SJWs playing SJWs completely and utterly straight, so now I guess we're all basking in the rubbery afterglow. I'm personally amazed that the community has reached the balance it has, and I often forget it's one of the only places I know of that has. Every time I begin to wonder if SJW-ness is just a silly fad, I see something that assures me that yeah... it's sticking around for a while more. Or at least, will continue to prevail in certain pockets no matter what.

Maybe FS is like a cockroach or something. It progressed through the evolutionary stages of this trend rapidly because of the constant and hectic nature of the community and now we just need to wait for the rest of the internet to calm down too. Or maybe SJW-ness will enter the mainstream for a while and define a decade. Or has it already. Eeeruuuuurgggh. Why.

Does this even answer your question.

No matter what you do/say/read/draw/enjoy/think, you will offend some SJW somewhere.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-15 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
This. Mostly because the majority of them are LOOKING for reasons to be offended and the rest are following along.

On the other hand, the flip side of this is that any amount of engagement in social justice will make someone somewhere call you an SJW.

For those of you that don't know, this character ┌(┌^o^)┐ is a meme represents like a monster fujoshi of some sort that crawls around looking for BL. I can see why it is offense as it degrades fangirls into some sort of monster, but personally, as a fujoshi, I'm not offended at all??

I know some of people take offense to the term fujoshi, since it literally means "rotten girl" and it's degrading or whatever but I feel like a lot of people don't understand that Asians humble/degrade themselves constantly?? (saying this as an Asian person) I mean there are a lot of Japanese people that call themselves otaku and that IS a degrading term but they don't really care. It's like calling yourself an awful/weird/perverted person jokingly, which happens all the time in Western culture too. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I don't get why people are offended by others degrading themselves as a joke. *shrugs*

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, if people have spent any time lurking Japanese fangirl places, they are the ones calling themselves rotten most of the time :V Same with using the "homooo"-character.

(I've never seen this meme either. I'm not sure where exactly it's popping up)

i think for people referring to themselves as fujoshi/whatever degrading term is fine but it's annoying to see this holier-than-thou condescending attitude from others outside the bl fandom/subculture/whatever you want to call it. also, sjw's aside, there's this huge chunk of fanboy culture which seems to love shitting on a lot of media that's non-heteronormative (or implied to be) and dismissing it as yaoi-bait/fujoshi pandering which feels a bit insulting and derogatory.

I didn't know that, but I really do get that. Thanks for posting this, anon. No, seriously, since this is my first explanation of this character, I'm glad it was a positive one.

Also, you made a really good point- people who yell at and name call seem to be assuming that the person they're yelling at has had their same life experiences, same culture, and same raising. It's like... how is the person who comes up to you and says "what up my homie?" supposed to know that your cousin had severe agoraphobia and would never leave the house and your entire family warns you not to become "a pathetic homie like her" and that you take offense to the term?

Pft idc if it's considered SJW-ish, I still think slash fangirls are fucking gross. I'm not talking slash shippers who slash ship once and a while...I'm talking about the ones who ships are comprised of 80% non-canon slash. I honestly could care less that there are those out there who make fun of them for the stupid shit that they do. It's about fucking time. They are like those perverted straight guys who love lesbian porn because twohawtgirlzkissing! It's not about gay rights (gay male here), it's about pretty male fap fuel. There are exceptions but for the majority of fangirls, it's just that.

A lot of slash fangirls do fetishize homosexuality though. I always figured this thing was making fun of those idiots who are like, 'These two cute guys in my class should totally make out, lolololol, I'll take pictures, they're my OTP!' Because ew, that's creepy. Those are real people, who may or may not be gay, and their relationship or lack thereof is none of your fucking business.
