What's a fetishizer?

Someone who ships two males because s/he fetishizes homosexuality would only ship two male characters because they're both hot and would also look hot boinking, as opposed to any sort of actual belief that the characters would go well together, and said someone would also believe that this fetish makes her/him a supporter of gay rights. TL;DR: someone who annoys the crap out of me.

If it annoys the crap out of you, you need to use the toilet more.

Wow, that was...really original. I can't say I've ever heard that one before.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-23 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
But...why is this different than a certain sexual preference? I mean, I have a preference for certain things between certain characters in different fandoms. Some have been slash, some have been het. Sadly I haven't had too many femslash pairings, which is actually because I haven't found well-written-enough fic to be able to picture it. Some couples I ship have more nurturing dynamics, some are more antagonistic, some are angsty, some are bouncy and happy, all regardless of gender. Don't we all have our own tastes?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-24 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
I think the key difference is that somebody who fetishizes homosexuality really only likes slash because if one hot guy equals 100, then two hot guys equals 200. It's not about character dynamics or relationship development, it's just about fapping to two hot guys being naked together, and then they go on and on about how progressive they are because they ship a slash pairing.

I guess basically a good litmus test is are they treating the characters as characters, or are they treating them as sex toys? If you used Search+Replace to change the character names to a pair of characters from a different fandom, does the fic make the same amount of sense?

I don't really care if people are into slash for the fap material, whatever you get off to is your business, it's when they ship slash for the fap material and then pretend that it somehow makes them more progressive is what I can't stand. These are the kind of people who proclaim that they hope one day they have a son and he comes out to them as gay, so they can ship him with his friends and talk about slash with him. They treat gay men as toys, not people.

~they hope one day they have a son and he comes out to them as gay, so they can ship him with his friends~

......please tell me you're exaggerating, or coming up with the most ridiculous possible example of what someone might say. I know a regular f!s visitor should have gotten over the whole 'People like that actually exist?!?' thing by now, but goddamn.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-24 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I really, really wish I was exaggerating, anon. :(

(Anonymous) 2013-03-24 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
I can attest to this as well. I saw that post on tumblr thanks to a friend of mine who was quite upset by its existence and insisted I see the horrible stupid. I couldn't believe it either at first.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-25 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
DA has seen this as well, more than once even.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-23 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I love you and your icon just made you all the more likeable.
Seriously, whenever I come across this shitty attitude I just want to vomit. "OMG gay marriage should be legal because then I could hide in the bushes at the weddings and fap to all the hot gays kissing! Uhuhuhu!"

....

people say that?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-24 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
No, not really.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-24 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
DA

You should have seen Sherlock Fandom when the UK legalized gay marriage. A lot of people just cared about how their ship can finally be canon now. It was disgusting and the exaggeration of anon above me sadly isn't so far away from what some crazy shippers have said.

that is...such a weird connection to make.

Like, gay marriage is now legal in the country this story is set it! That's obviously relevant because
1. canon = real life and
2. gay people can't have relationships unless it's legal for them to marry

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2013-03-24 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, then there's the women who are oh so positive about same-sex relationships as long as they can watch in a three-way fling, but not if it's going to require a major emotional commitment.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-25 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, now, I sometimes enjoy m/m pairings just because they'd be hot together- but then I do the same with f/f and m/f pairings, too. To me, the signs of fetishization are when one only ships slash and talks disparagingly about het and femme ships, is obsessive about who can top or bottom, etc.
