Have you ever quit a show for silly reasons?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-26 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Just what it says. Can be anything, from being upset over a character death or a ship sinking to being afraid to continue for fear of what will happen or ragequitting over a bad episode even though the show in general hadn't gotten bad.

Kind of? I stopped watching Pokemon as a kid because I rage-quitted when Misty left. Don't know if that counts.

Glee was irritating me all through it's second season, but honestly the kicker was that botched rearrangement of For Good from Wicked. The song is written naturally as a duet and yet they felt the need to fuck with it and they made it sound TERRIBLE. I finished the finale and haven't watched Glee since.

How about not started? I can't watch Elementary because I find Johhny Miller's voice to be...not what I expected from GIFs. I don't know what I expected, but not that.

I had a bit of the same problem where I expected Lucy Liu's voice to be a lot lower, based on gifs. But it is an amazing show, so I recommend giving it another shot!

I quit How I Met Your Mother not over Ted's creepiness, Barney's womanizing, Marshall and Lily's sickening sweetness NOR having still not met the mother. No, I quit it because of half of one 22-minute episode where the gang was deriding Robin for "not being a real New Yorker."

I quit watching Game of Thrones because wondering what they'd change from the books and mentally filling in all the stuff the left out of the show was making me tense. So lame, I know.

BBC Sherlock. I quit after the hot mess they turned "A Scandal in Bohemia" into.

There have been times I can't get past animation that I just didn't like, and quit for that reason. I quit Saikano because I couldn't stand the girl's voice. And Chobits because the guy is too much of a perv, and not in an entertaining Miroku sort of way.

Re: Have you ever quit a show for silly reasons?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-27 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, Chobits. That is the exact reason I never made it past episode 5. The premise is so interesting, but the show seemed all about panty jokes.

I quit Doctor Who because I decided that "The Angels Take Manhattan" proved that Moffat wasn't trying anymore. This is a bullshit conclusion, because it's more than likely that he just simply wrote a crappy episode, but I also hated "Asylum of the Daleks" and it then occurred to me that the last thing Moffat wrote that I liked was The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon.

I quit Farscape when Zaan died. She was my favorite character.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand and support the reasons as for why they killed her character. I just couldn't watch the show anymore.

I've quit one or two shows because of unrealistically good looking hair/make-up, or inappropriate high heels.

It's petty, but thinking 'she a doctor/police officer/whatever; no way she has time to style her hair like that/no way she can do her job in those shoes' distracts me like nothing else.

I had to quit White Collar because I was starting to hate both Neal AND Peter at that point. Neal because it was obvious he was never going to change and Peter fore continuing to potentially ruin his own life by continuing to let Neal get away with literally everything.

Which is of course stupid because obviously they can't have Neal become a law abiding citizen and never pull another con on anyone (including the people he's supposed to be helping) because then there would be no show... Though I still think they could have done the show without Neal being able to get away with literally everything...

Prison Break, when they killed the one prisoner's cat.

Someone later told me much later that it turned out the cat wasn't really dead. If I'd known that at the time it would have made a difference, but at this point I don't care. :)

I didn't watch Smash's second season specifically because it was supposed to be better than the first. I was afraid that if it wasn't terrible anymore it would just be boring.

I quit The Americans somewhere during the first episode because the dude kept trying to kiss the woman's neck and she kept saying no and he said "but you're my wife dammit!" (or something like that) and I feel like this is probably a lame overly SJWish reason to not watch a show.

I quit watching Glee because Frank was played by a girl in the Rocky Horror episode and I felt like they were sort of missing the point of Rocky Horror.

I gave up on NCIS when Kate died, and JAG when Mac and Webb broke up (fuck Harm) and Pokemon when the voice actors changed. Nothing against the new ones, really, they just didn't sound right to me.

I quit watching Zero no Tsukaima because of the copious amounts of Abuse Is Funny When It's Female On Male. And Louise honestly pissed me off so much in so many ways...

Not really silly, but as soon as Glee made the rape joke (Brittany and the guy climbing in her tent, alien invasion) I automatically went "NOPE" and haven't watched it since.

I ragequit reading the asoiaf series. Well, actually, I couldn't deal with the writing despite trying to start reading CoK three times and ended up listening to audiobooks because it was more bearable, even if it was ridiculously slow, and then after like a week straight of listening to it GRRM killed off and I opened up the asoiaf wiki, read all of the spoilers for all of the books, and stopped listening to those damn audiobooks.
