but... sherlock only has 6 episodes!! If you want to be in the fandom, why don't you just watch them??

"Migratory slash fans" have existed for as long as I've been around. People dispute the label, but there's no denying that for some people the community>>canon. The tumblr user who got me into Teen Wolf definitely doesn't give any fucks about canon.

As a lurker around slash fandom, around 10 years (So, people getting into Smallville for the gay would be my first example).
I would be really curious if it predated LJ enabling a more interconnected fannish community. I can't see someone participating in a Yahoo Group for a show they have no real interest in, but maybe I'm just naive.

Huuuuuuuhh, that has been a while then. Good(?) to know it's not something that has just sprung up then. I also wonder about taking it a step further. Did this sort of thing happen before the internet?
