Yeah, that's exactly why I hate Makorra. If they actually had some sort of consequences for the cheating, that'd be one thing, but it made it look like the cheating was justified because it's ~*~true love~*~ and man, that pisses me off.

I didn't mind the Tenzin/Pema thing, though, because I didn't take it as cheating...?

Agreed on that last sentence; he broke up with Lin, because that's kind of what you're supposed to do when you discover that you're in love with somebody else instead of your partner. Otherwise, you end up unfairly stringing them along and it ends messily (see also: Makorra).

(Anonymous) 2013-03-28 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the Tenzin/Pema thing was sort of one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situations - there was no way to make everyone happy. What did happen sucked and got some feelings hurt, but it would've been way worse if Tenzin had actually cheated. Like Mako did.

I hope Asami gets to sock him in the face and tell Korra off for enabling it. And then she can go off and have her own show about being AWESOME.

I would watch the shit out of that :D

Actually, I'd love for Korra to actually REALISE that Mako acted like a shithead in stringing Asami along - she seems to be kind of... unaware of social issues, given that she did spend the last thirteen years in a complex with no one her own age. She may have been so infatuated with Mako that she was basically unaware of the fact that he was still with Asami when he got with her.

I just want beautiful Asami-Korra bonding and Mako being forever alone, okay :(

I wanted Asami-Korra kicking ass and taking names more than -anything-. And then the relationship bs triangle happened and I decided I wasn't interested in watching Korra anymore.

Ugh yes. I'm probably still going to watch book 2, but my squee has been substantially harshed. Not just for the godawful cringeworthy love triangle - I think they massively dropped the ball on the main plot. For one glorious moment, it looked like Korra was actually going to have her assumptions, views, and attitudes challenged...

Yes! One of the things I loved about LoK was Korra adjusting to reality outside of Avatar Isolation Land, and learning/disregarding social norms. But that seemed to be dropped in favor of stuff...

Asami really should have run over Korra instead. I just want them to have adventures :(

Oh man, I once did this whole thought experiment on how the series would play out if she had hit Korra. It was so glorious ;_;

The more I think about it, the more it leans to acknowledging that Asami wouldn't hit Korra anyways because BENDING would prevent it.

But then the brain fanfiction starts rolling, and suddenly Asami is flying off her moped, but Korra catches her, and it is the beginning of a beautiful Korrasami friendship.

Seriously though, it would have been a more entertaining direction for me. Instead of Bolin bringing in the Mako-disapproved fangirls to tour the attic habitat of the Fire Ferrets, it's the team newbie doing that. Asami might have bonded with Korra first, and despite being rich she could actually give her some perspective of what it's like to be competent without bending. There wouldn't even need to be a love triangle episode where Korra "accepts" Asami :U

I am totally good with the beginning of a beautiful Korrasami.

It would have been SO GOOD. Okay, just picture it: Asami hits Korra with her moped. She still takes her out for dinner, although more as a friend thing than a date thing because Nickelodeon would pitch a fit, sigh. Korra meets Hiroshi and explains the Fire Ferrets' situation, and he offers to sponsor them, much to the surprise of the brothers when Korra announces it. Asami supports Korra, who's becoming her best friend. Korra, in turn, is learning about what being a non-bender in Republic City is like. Bolin crushes on Korra and they go out on a date. Korra still has feelings for Mako, but because he's not actively cheating on anyone, it's much less obnoxious to see (aside from breaking poor Bolin's heart). When the stadium is destroyed, Asami invites all three to stay at the mansion, with Korra a much more regular visitor - she and Asami, after all, are basically best friends at this point. Korra still finds evidence incriminating Hiroshi, but this time, Asami gets upset and defensive at Korra. There are NO accusations of jealousy and NO ultimatums over relationships. Hiroshi's anger is because his daughter has become friends with, like, the ultimate bender. Korra offers Asami support herself when she has to go against her father. Mako's concern when Korra is captured and then recovered is less obnoxious because he's not actively ignoring his girlfriend to do so. And, at the end, it's Korra and Asami who go to confront Amon - because, quite frankly, when you're going up against someone who can remove bending, it helps to have someone who can fight without it going with you, AND it's an amazing demonstration that someone who has been PERSONALLY wronged by a bender is close friends with the Avatar and is just a perfect display and example that the rift between benders and non-benders doesn't need to be permanent and argh.

It actually works out amazingly beautifully. The Makorrans can actually keep Makorra, and it's much more palatable for others because Mako isn't cheating on anyone! There's the basis for Korrasami! And no one gets treated like shit just because their boyfriend would rather swoon over someone else!

And then she can go off and have her own show about being AWESOME.

i really don't get you asami-stans.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-29 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
How was that stanning? I like her. She didn't do anything wrong except get involved with a dude who apparently doesn't give two shits about her feelings.

Is there a reason I shouldn't like her? Or are you just all hatey because OMG ~MAKORRA 5EVAR~? Because I wouldn't get you, either.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-29 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
DA

I liked Asami well enough (it was awesome to see her stand up to her father when she knew he was wrong), but I'm not sure she could carry an entire show on her own, based on what we've seen of her. She's a good secondary character, but that doesn't necessarily translate to "starring in a show all about being AWESOME." Samwise Gamgee is an awesome character, but a book all about him would just involve way too many potatoes for my taste.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-29 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Tenzin/Pema was kind of super-awkward for me because that episode played shortly after my best friend broke up with his (kinda clingy, you're-not-allowed-to-have-other-friends) gf, mostly to see if maybe we could make it as a couple (and also because: see previous parenthesis).

We didn't. Still friends. But watching those scenes about a week after all that went down with all the super-awkward feelings...yeeeah, that was some seriously uncomfortable Avatar-times.

This is one of the worst things about fandom. People make judgements about what "the show" is saying, when a story is still new and hasn't played out yet. We have no idea if there aren't going to be consequences of the cheating for Korra and Mako. It JUST happened.

This season was completely finished before they knew if they were going to get any more--that's why it rushes to have a complete ending, with the death of Amon and Korra getting her powers back. If there's consequences, it'll be stuff they did after the fact and possibly a backpedal, which is still disappointing.
