I am very curious as to how you've seen it misused! I've done a lot of research on Old Norse homosexuality (for... a fandom years before Thor) and the impression I got was that nobody is quite exactly sure what range of meanings that word had in the Old Norse? But maybe I missed something?

(...and while I am fairly forgiving of 'ergi' meaning-wise, they do often massacre the grammar, and I've seen fics using other old Norse terms that they very clearly did minimal research on. Like, 'pulled from a badly OCR'd google book, because that's the only other source in the universe that spelled it that badly.')
