[Life in the Dreamhouse]

aah, life in the dreamhouse is my guilty pleasure. i've never even watched or cared much about barbie stuff before, but i love this series because it makes fun of itself just as much as TS3 made fun of the barbie franchise, except better. and yeah, ken's a lot more endearing in it!

I was wondering if this was the show that had a youtube video of ken squealing in a bunch of different languages/dubs.

This gif tells me it is. Thank you.

And here it is an hour late. Still funny.

That gif is terrifying. It is right smack dab in the middle of Uncanny Valley territory. I'm going to have nightmares tonight.

Ken is adorbs and I like how he is prtrayed too. I do think he could be a little more than barbies perfect boyfriend though. He has had careers too in the past!
Toy Story Ken was funny, but he was a little eh to me too.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
the only thing about ken in LitD is that i wish they'd make him do things now and then that aren't about barbie somehow. the episode where he can't get a job because he loves her too much just made him seem really losery rather than a perfect boyfriend, lmao........

he's still great though

I mean, shit, Barbie has had tons of jobs...isn't she a model at present in this show?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Funny, that's refreshing to me...a total turnaround of the whole "women's lives revolve around men" you see so often in media. I think it's a funny little poke at that.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
this~

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the concept of that episode is kind of what the people at Pixar based their Ken off, so I guess it just means the two Kens are two sides of the same coin.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well, at least the MRAs can finally shut up about him being an accessory to her like ~an object~.
She doesn't force him to do all those things for her, he's just really REALLY worried about her all the time ;P

Don't all the characters on this show revolve around Barbie :|a

Raquelle is so tsundere for Barbie, it's hilarious.

Yeah, I mean the brand is called "Barbie", not "Barbie and her family Ken, Stacy, whatever names they have". They mostly want to sell Barbie dolls, so it's normal that all other characters revolve around her.

I think Toy Story Ken worked well given the role he had in the story - part of the bad guy's inner circle. Making him a bit self-hating and in denial about being basically one of Barbie's accessories fits that role.

A thoroughly nice and perfect Ken wouldn't have worked at all for a villainous character, even one who eventually turned on the big bad and became a good guy.

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-04-01 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I have to agree with you. Each Ken's nature fits the role they're supposed to fill in each work.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
And I guess the entire "feminine men are pathetic" thing was part of making him a bad guy then?
I thought it was stupid of Pixar to showcase how it should be shameful for "manly" men to be compared to women. They could have made him an antagonist without insulting all the little girls in the audience.

I agree with this so much. Toy Story 3 Ken worked so well since he was completely insecure with himself. The different environment and themes of the film worked for what he was dealing with.

Life in The Dreamhouse makes me want to actually buy the toys, and is kind of reminiscent of how kids actually play with them iirc. Not that I hate the Toy Story Ken, but LiTD is def more cool.

[personal profile] starry_starrrz 2013-04-02 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
:D omg, I love LitD so much. Ken is such a sweetie in it. <3

Thank you for introducing me to Life in the Dreamhouse. This has made my day so much better.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
as a boy who also played with (my sister's) Ken dolls, I love both Kens for different reasons

I will admit to being skeptical to check this out, but I was hooked from the first episode.

"It looks like a bakery pooped its pants!"

Umm, new favorite thing.
