I thought it was really good, actually. One of them was obviously going to die before the other, and this way Wilson gets to spend his final months with his best friend. I can't really think of a better way for the show to end.

I thought so too. It's depressing if you think too much about what awaits them in the future, but if done right...I'm a sucker for bittersweet endings. And I actually thought the finale ended in a satisfying way and was quite lovely, given that House gave up his job (which is basically his reason for living, alongside Wilson) to be with Wilson in his remaining days.

Plus, Wilson never died on camera so if you want Wilson to live just head-canon it. Maybe they found Narnia and Wilson was cured by magic, YOU NEVER KNOW.

You might find some balm for your soul in the House/Wilson fandom, OP. Go to hw_reqs on Livejournal and ask for stories in which Wilson lives. There are a lot of them, and a surprising number are really good.

Some of the shippers, yeah. There was plenty of crazy, and I went back and forth between watching the main comms and ignoring them as a risk to my general well-being.

But plenty of us knew House/Wilson wouldn't happen, and never wanted it to, largely because we saw what happened to every single canon romantic relationship. Ugh, DNW that David Shore treatment of House and Wilson. And we got it anyway, so we're writing our way out of it as best we can.

I have fond memories of going online to the House/Wilson community after a particularly slashy episode and seeing people go into meltdown mode.

I'm the person who said they could find good stories at hw_reqs, and I'll heartily second that Nightdog fic. If you're looking for Wilson-survives stories, I'd start there and then ask around. Most of the wankers and nutters seem to have wandered off and the people who are left to talk to, are pretty welcoming.

I thought they did a good job with it. It was bittersweet but it's House. It was never going to have a happy ending. House gave up his entire life to be with Wilson for whatever time he had left. I thought it was a very effective ending.

They ride off into the sunset, sure, but ... That doesn't mean it has to be over. My brother was given a terminal diagnosis a year ago, but after some damn aggressive chemo and two stem cell transplants no one thought would work beyond prolonging his life, he's cancer-free as of a few weeks ago. You never know.

Yeah, also the part where I'm pretty sure House killed himself after Wilson died.

And no, I'm not romanticizing or anything, but he gave up his whole life and his career when he faked his own death so I honestly can't see him going on when he couldn't even solve medical puzzles anymore.

The series finale was pretty open, it was kinda choose your own adventure.

It´s better than a canon death. So I quite liked it.

Can someone explain to me just what is cliche about Wilson having terminal cancer? Because I certainly have not been overwhelmed by shows saying "in the near future, this beloved character IS GOING TO DIE!!!!! The end."

I loved the ending tbh. House/Wilson was endgame. I predicted that the series would end with either Wilson dying, or them both dying... at least we didn't have to SEE Wilson die.

Well, depending on your perspective, one could argue that when the show ended, Wilson was dying, not dead, as was the case with Thirteen.
