I hope you're trolling.

In case you're not, SHE TOOK HIS FUCKING HEART AND WAS CONTROLLING HIM. There are some serious fucking consent issues there. It's rape.

And I know Horowitz said on Twitter that Regina wasn't using his heart for that, but it is a family show and he was trying to cover his ass.

Wait so the CREATOR said it wasn't rape and people still argue that it was?

Well, the creators of SGU retconned that people signed consent forms before they switched bodies with folks on Destiny so it was ok for them to drink and have sex in their bodies....but the fans still thought it was pretty fucking gross.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't retconned, it was offered by way of explanation. As in people were whining about it so the writers/producers were like "SIGH, fine, let us spell it out for those of you who will automatically assume the worst instead of taking for granted SOP." I always just assumed they signed consent forms and then when the writers said something it was like "Well, duh."

It wasn't the way it came across, so they put it in a webisode because the fans were not enjoying it.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
There must have been a webisode for every moment on the show, then.

Stargate had a serious problem with failing to see consent issues. See the SGA eps Irresistable as well. They never even thought about it being an issue till it stirred up a shitstorm and yes, then they retconned it. Remember when there was going to be an ep about a quadriplegic woman who got to spend time in a lesbians body and then wanted to use it to have sex with a man? They were totally going to go through with it until AfterEllen (I think) got hold of the news and Syfy had to make a statement.

The reason I can never love any Stargate series is how they constantly introduce crazy, world-changing technologies and fail to deal with the logical human consequences. I understand the limits of cheap television, but it almost seemed like their series mission statement. Irresistible is the most disgusting example that comes to mine. Ugh.

'Whining'? No, it was fucking horrifying. They fucked up and should never have gone there.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you know, what the creator intends and what comes across on the screen can be two very different things.

Because it's bullshit that it wasn't. It's a family show so of course he would try to back his way out of it.

There are clearly consent issues.

. . . You must be new here.

Well, the creator said it wasn't rape but what we saw was that Regina took his heart and told her guards to bring him to her chambers and he screamed "Noooooooooooo!!!". So I'm going to believe my eyes.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
On top of everything that's already been mentioned, there was also that moment when (after she had taken his heart) she ordered her guards to take him to her bedchamber. Even if people want to argue their Storybrooke relationship, there are few other ways to see that particular scene than as something very definitely leading to rape.

+1.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
The dude who raped me still argues that it wasn't. Just because some people don't fully understand what rape is doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.

I realize the writer of fictional characters ≠ an actual rapist, but it's really hard to not see the "Take him to my bedchambers" and "Everyone in this town does what I want them to whether they want to or not because I built it and fashioned everyone's life exactly how I wanted it" as non-existant consent.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
to be fair, creators have said dumb shit about consent before (see: the nightwing and tarantula incident)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, the creators/writers of this show actually tried to DEFEND Regina's rape of Graham?!

Well fuck, there goes any and all hope I had that this show might try to CHALLENGE itself and actually CONFRONT the issue of what she did to him, rather than just handwave it with "BUT HER MOMMY WAS MEAN TO HER OH LOOKIT SHE'S SOWWY NOW AND SHE JUST WANTS TO BE A GOOD MOMMY HOW COULD YOU NOT WUB HER?!?!"

*headdesk*
