Rachel had a bigger part in Batman Begins than TDK.

I feel rather ambivalent to both performances, but the inconsistency of the character between both movies does not help me make up my mind on which one was the better Rachel.

OP, I could tooootally go on forever about this old topic.

While I don't see anything special about Maggie's acting (I've only ever seen her in TDK though), I really have to agree that Katie definitely made the better Rachel. I felt like she was passionate about her job, while Maggie's Dawes seemed to be more focused on her relationships with Bruce and Harvey. There was no dark past or tragic childhood that we know of with Rachel, and I really felt that with Katie - she merely did what she did because she was a good person with a strong moral compass. Maggie's Rachel seemed to try to welcome some darkness (or drama) with that silly love triangle. It's not only how Maggie acted it out, but it's how she helped write it. I think she destroyed what could have been a great original character, and not just for a Nolan female character.

Also, I absolutely despite the but she looks so young to be a lawer! argument. Looks can be deceiving, folks. Get over it.

Did Maggie help write TDK!Rachel? I didn't know this. :O I was under the impression that her role was just reduced in the second movie.

She did! I think she pretty much had full control over her character's writing. I heard Nolan helped with it too, but I think he just approved whatever she did.

I always wondered why I liked Katie's Rachel more than Maggie's Rachel and I think you've just helped me realise why. Thanks! :D

Glad I could help! <3

I, too, perform Katie's performance.

Aw, here I was hoping that you were a body double or something, and you actually did perform it.

I just didn't like her character at all, in either movie. Maybe if they'd gotten a great actress, Rachel could have been an interesting character, but her character and writing were too bland to do much with.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. Rachel is on the long list of personality-less women Nolan has written. I wasn't even upset when she was killed off. She could have been so, so much more interesting

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
mte. i didn't feel anything for the character.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
THERE WERE TWO ACTRESSES? Damn, tells how much I was paying attention during these movies...

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
...Yeah, I'm in the same boat with you.

Honestly, she's a pretty damn boring character, the token love interest that dies so the hero can go on and be badass without having to tell anyone why he's out late and where these new bruises come from.

Yea, I thought Maggie was the better actress but Katie's Rachel had the more interesting storyline and characterization.

I don't particularly like one over the other though. They're both okay but I have no strong feelings about them.

Really? I'm surprised - I didn't DISlike her, but she didn't make much of an impression on me. Basically, I thought she was Blandy McBlanderson, and she didn't come across as lawyer-ly to me, whereas I was pleasantly surprised by Maggie G.

However, whatever floats your boat, OP!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Meh. I thought the character was boring either way, but I did like Katie Holmes better.

She existed to say one line and make Bruce Wayne "look smarter" for repeating it later on, having actually learned nothing.

Who did that better? Who cares?
