I love Doctor Who (well, New Who since I found Classic Who to be unbearably dry--well, from the few episodes I've seen of it, anyway), but I'm kind of disappointed with the direction it's going after Ten's arc.

Maybe it's just because I miss Ten and the gang a lot, but I'm not all that intrigued by what's going on in s5 (I'm almost finished with it). The characters haven't captivated me the way the previous season's characters did (even Martha and Jackie and Mickey, and I didn't even really like them), Eleven, while adorable, hasn't exactly captured my heart (not the way 9 & 10 did), and I'm just really freaking desperate to know if it's going to get better.

I really hope so because I adore Doctor Who to bits. The past four seasons have been beyond BRILLIANT, and I miss the feeling of starting an episode and not being able to stop because it's just that damn good.

The season 5 finale is either completely brilliant and wonderful or a horrible travesty depending on your opinion (a description that applies to 99% of everything that has ever happened on Doctor Who ever), but it'll almost certainly make you feel something other than "meh". And while a lot of people rag on season 6, it is a lot more emotionally intense than season 5.

Honestly, with this show, tastes are so eclectic that the only way to know if you'll like it is to watch them yourself. Recs are almost entirely pointless.

I had a hard time shifting from Ten to Eleven, but after S.6, I felt much, much better about Smith and I've come to really appreciate him. Stick with it :) Eleven has some very lovely moments worth watching.

Now that's opinion I haven't seen before. I can see loving Eleven the whole time, or disliking him the whole time, or liking him but being turned off by s6... but being wooed into liking Eleven by /series 6/?
I must admit, I can't really wrap my head around that.

Yeah...gotta agree with this. His lovability was at peak during series 5 -- that series was the characterization capital the writers shored up for him so that they could get away with series 6.

MTE. Anon's entitled to their opinions, but I've never seen that one before, nor did I expect to see it.

Maybe the ayrt thought he was boring or opaque in season 5 and felt his character became more complex and his inner thoughts and feelings easier to see in season 6? IDK, that's the only thing I can think of. I have seen some people who had a hard time adjusting from how Ten always wore his hearts on his sleeve to how Eleven always played everything so close to the chest.

I mean, personally I liked him a lot more in season 5 than in season 6, but that was mainly because Moffat stopped being resist making the characters in his episodes sound like zinger-slinging grandstanding dicks somewhere around "Day Of The Moon" and therefore the lack of emotional continuity between season 5 and season 6 jarred. But I could kinda understand how someone who didn't really "feel" season 5 might just be glad for season 6 and not really care much if the continuity wasn't perfect.
