People who use makeup

What's your routine? What products do you use? Can you recommend a concealer?

sorry this is so long

I used Bare Minerals' concealer which I like because it's not heavy but it wears off after a few hours, which sucks. I don't like heavy makeup though, especially not on acne because I feel like it really exacerbates the acne.

If I have time in the morning (pfft) I usually just put on foundation and concealer and finishing powder and go, if I don't, I keep the concealer in my purse and put it on when I get to work. I only use mineral makeup at this point and most of it is made by Everyday Minerals which is actually based here in Austin, though I have to order it through the mail since I don't know who carries it here. It's super cheap compared to most mineral makeup: http://www.everydayminerals.com/

On the weekend, I do the same thing re: foundation but I use blush (I really like the Everyday Minerals Ambrosia shade and I also use it as eyeshadow) and mascara. I don't bother with lip stuff too much, I usually use tinted balms cause I don't have very full lips. I wish I didn't wear glasses because I like eye makeup A LOT. When I'm feeling capable I wear liquid liner, but I don't have a very steady hand so I'm still having trouble with it

When I can afford it, I like Benefit products. I use their mascara -- I would like to try others (like I've heard Chanel makes good mascara) but I haven't gotten to the point where I feel I can throw down that much money for makeup

A little tip for eyeliner: There is no need to do the whole line in one go, you can draw it bit by bit and that way it's more difficult to mess it up.

Thanks! Yeah, I have seen this technique on youtube but it's hard for me to do, I guess cause I have really wrinkly eyes (I blame it on crying all the time my whole life cause I can't think of any other cause, besides maybe genetics)

I haven't tried it myself yet, but this spoon trick looks promising:

Have you tried raising your eyebrows while applying eyeliner? My eyelids are quite wrinkly too, but I do this and they get smooth enough to apply liquid eyeliner (I'm still hopeless with the pencil-type ones because they get caught on the wrinkles, they aren't creamy enough to glide over your skin)

primer recs?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-14 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Crap, I forgot to recommend Nyx! I use their eyelid primer

I used to use primer before I put on concealer or foundation and it really makes the makeup stay on longer, but I ran out and haven't bothered to get more. I haven't found a brand that I'm 100% devoted to and I keep cycling through them (a lot of them are expensive, too), so I'm open to recs when it comes to primer

A little bit of foundation, concealer (I reccomend dermacolor by kryolan), black eyeliner, black mascara, lip balm. May add black eyeshadow and use a little of lip balm as blush. That's about it.

Under eye concealer: Revlon ColorStay

Blemish concealer: Physicians Formula concealer sticks (there are also liquids that didn't work well for me, but YMMV). Apply the green and then cover with the fleshtone that best matches your natural skintone. You might have to wear foundation over it depending on how closely your skintone matches the shades they have.

I don't use makeup often, but when I do I use a lot of concealer because I have dark circles under my eyes as well as spider veins on my nose. I recommend Pore Putty (gross name, I know) for hardcore concealing. It's never failed me-- it's lasted through mosh pits!-- and nothing shows through. Because it's basically putty that you put on your face lol

As a general recommendation, if you're interested in makeup, Birchbox is $10/month and they send you samples every month. I love it. It's a great way to try out new brands and products on the cheap, since makeup can be so expensive. I know it's in the US and the UK, I'm not sure about anywhere else. http://www.birchbox.com/ (http://www.birchbox.com/)

I use an Aveeno moisturizer with SPF 30 before applying makeup. (I started wearing sunscreen daily when I was 15, and I'm 30 now, and believe me, it makes a big difference in how your skin ages. Wear sunscreen and moisturize, you'll never be sorry.) I wear mineral makeup, usually Everyday Minerals, because I have sensitive skin and it doesn't make me itch. I use the Everyday Minerals concealer and it works alright, but I am only concealing occasional acne marks and a few small scars.

Depending on what you want to conceal, you may need something with more staying power/coverage. If you do, I would recommend using a skin primer also. Because I have really oily skin, I will sometimes use a rice powder primer by Fyrinnae. I apply concealer last, and I recommend this if you are concealing specific spots, otherwise you may smudge and mess up the concealer you just applied if you roll your finishing powder brush over it.

As a finishing powder, I use the Bare Minerals Mineral Veil. I wish I could find another product, because I don't otherwise use Bare Minerals and it's a bit expensive, but it's absolutely the best finishing powder I've ever used, there's not anything better for matte skin and shrinking pores that I've tried. I'm open to recommendations!

I use a Benefit mascara, they make a few great ones--I think I'm using "Yes, they're real" now. I will use eyeshadow by Everyday Minerals or anyone, really, I'm not picky about that. The Balm makes a great eyelid primer, I think it's called "Put a Lid on it" or something like that, and I highly recommend using a primer if you want your eyeshadow to pop and stay in place. I use an undereye brightener by Everyday Minerals--Aussie Pick Me Up.

The Balm makes a great lip stain that I love love love and would recommend, it's called Stainiac, comes in a few colors. I use Beauty Queen, I think. This is my go-to product, pop it in your purse and put it on anytime. It's just a color, so if you want shine you need a separate gloss. I got in my Birchbox lately Mirenesse Glossy Kiss, which is a lip pencil but not waxy and awful, it's actually bold and fabulous.

I don't usually wear blush since I have cheeks like a milkmaid and they show through my foundation unless I wear it extra heavy, but Everyday Minerals makes acceptable blushes and The Balm has a few nice ones.

Sorry this is so long!

Concealer (I use both a liquid concealer with some sort of breakout healing something in it and a regular old stick), thick black eyeliner (kohl pencil or liquid, depending on my mood), mascara, and a little brown eyeshadow as a bronzer/lowlighter. If I feel like doing anything special, it's usually black and grey eyeshadow and a variety of purple shade lipstick.
I also wear glasses, and I've always tended to be a little heavier on the eye makeup. Some people say that it's either a waste of time because people can't see it or it makes your eyes look even smaller, but that's not been my experience? Idc, I do what I want.
I've never been able to grasp why people have trouble with liquid eyeliner though. Pencils and gel liners are about 30986458364% harder for me and always have been………………

I use a mix of cheaper brands that I mostly forget the name of (except Rimmel London, but that's because I coupon clip for those).

Typically I don't care enough to do more than mascara. Concealer if I need it, eyeliner if I'm going to dinner, eyeshadow if I'm going to a really nice dinner. I've sort of half-heartedly tried to go "natural" so for concealer I've been using the "Fast Fix Concealer" by these people: http://www.sallyhansennaturalbeauty.com/ and it's decent. For whole face concealer/foundation I have something by MAC - it was a gift so I don't know what exactly it is but it's pretty great.

I use Mac makeup because I'm allergic to the crap that L'oreal and the like tend to put into their products. No concealer for around the eyes in particular, but a medium foundation, lipstick, black eyeliner pencil (I'm still no good with gel liners but they look so nice), mascara (they have this one that has two brushes so you can put it on really thick or less thick), some weird metallic purple-y eyeshadow I found by Urban Decay and uh.. an eyebrow pencil becayse my eyebrows are light and don't stand out much. Oh and lipstick. I don't really like lip pencils or lip gloss much.

Every day I wear L'Oreal's True Match for the bags under my eyes, as well as a little over my eyelid to make them look less sunken. Then, L'Oreal's Super Liner Carbon Gloss liquid eyeliner and sometimes La Roche-Posay's mascara. When feeling lazy I skip the eyeliner and wear concealer and mascara.

The concealer's one of they few that I get good coverage from without dumping a ridiculous amount of money on them. It's not perfect, but the bags under my eyes are tough shit I've been dealing with for years and it's a great value for the money it costs.

The mascara is kind of expensive but it's hypoallergenic which is something I really need since I wear contact lenses.

I love the eyeliner because you can quite literally scratch it off but it doesn't smudge. Ever (side eyeing Revlon and the stupid shit their products forced me to put up with when I knew of no better alternatives that didn't cost a fortune). If it gets slightly moist or wet (think drizzle, not pouring rain) but you don't touch it and let it dry it stays in place, it won't run or get diluted. It lasts a very long time on but it's super easy to remove, which is something people are usually not very keen on, but I hate having to rub my face over and over until everything's come off.

sa

I forgot to mention I wear no foundation, lip balm when needed, and when I have a fancy event, I'll go with black and whitish-silverish eye shadow and mascara.
