(Anonymous) 2013-04-17 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)If we're talking about Juliette then yeah I think she's pretty fucking spoiled.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 12:13 am (UTC)(link)The character. And really. Seriously. The girl who was forced to basically raise her own mother? Spoiled? REALLY.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 12:24 am (UTC)(link)Yes, Juliette had a shitty childhood. This is not an excuse for her behavior as an adult. She is an entitled selfish brat. If she doesn't get what she wants she basically throws a tantrum. She's been getting better, but she still refuses to accept and take credit for shit that goes south, even if it's completely her fault. She started screwing her mother's therapist because she wanted to with a complete disregard for how it would affect her mother who is trying her damnedest to recover and make up for how she was a shit mother.
Juliette is basically a spoiled child in an adult body.

(Though TBH I don't think Juliette has any responsibility for giving a fuck about her mom, and also creepy therapy dude is clearly prying on her obvious inability to form functional relationships especially with men, so I have a hard time holding that situation against her. That guy is FUCKED UP.)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 12:50 am (UTC)(link)Also Juliette and creep therapist guy are both at fault in that situation. Juliette basically stole him away and started using him for her career and creepy therapy dude was completely okay with this.
(But I find the idea of Juliette not having to care about her mother at all kind of cruel, as her mom has honestly tried really hard to make amends and has taken full responsibility for her behavior and is actively trying to better herself, something Juliette really hasn't been able to do.)
Re: ayrt
Re: Her mom, from my perspective what you have to remember is Jolene is an addict and has been all of Juliette's life. That completely destroyed Juliette's childhood in a way that Juliette has no responsibility to forgive, though of course it would be nice if she did (and probably better for Juliette, in terms of not holding on to that anger).
But, more importantly IMO, it's not like Jolene's been clean for any significant period of time. Yes, it's good that she's trying. But this is not the first time Jolene has gotten clean, and I see no reason that Juliette should necessarily believe it's going to stick. And Juliette 100% SHOULD NOT feel ANY responsibility for making sure her mom stays clean because she is the child in this situation (and only a young adult at that), and she has already suffered enough because of her mother.
I also disagree that Jolene has taken full responsibly (or that Juliette isn't trying to better herself, but that's anther story). Jolene is trying, sure, but Juliette didn't get that me-me-me personality from nowhere. I think Juliette's decision to have Jolene go back to Nashville and move out was 100% right and healthiest for both of them.
...
Apparently I have a lot of feeling about this. I just really don't like the the show sometimes implies that her mother's sobriety is somehow this broken young woman's responsibility. (Not saying you were saying that -- I just get the vibe from the show sometimes.)

To anyone who has a go at her for repeatedly demonstrating ~inappropriate~ behaviour - when was the last time you changed something about yourself and then never, ever, ever reverted back to that initial behaviour? She is learning, she will make mistakes repeatedly - if she suddenly turned around and was perfectly adult in every situation, you'd blame the writers for unrealistic characterisation, right?
Also, on a side note, can you honestly say you wouldn't get a little agitated if everything you did was being compared to someone else, and you never came out on top? Juliette is pretty much living in Rayna's shadow right now. The tour, the billboard in Times Square, trying to establish herself as more independent at the label and being almost constantly shot down...
