In fact Bronies do want more male ponies. Just not replacing the already existing pony waifus.
I'm not a Brony, but I enjoy the show and would love to see a male version of Rarity just to finally have a male fashion addict who isn't presented as a walking, talking gay stereotype.

And you don't need to be an SJW to see that changing one of the few well-written female casts for young girls to a boys club is somehow problematic, considering how many well-written shows already exist that are 80% male characters.

Honestly I would just prefer they expand on the male characters they have shown. I like the little brother/ caretaker dynamic spike has with twilight, and Big Mac could use a little character development, and shining armor could be a good background addition to some of the adventure plots every once in awhile. They've got some decent male characters already they just need to utilize them.

Also to be fair, on the male fashionista side, they had Hoity Toity in season 1 and I felt he didn't go over the top into campy gay territory, but he was based on an actual fashion designer from what I remember so they are probably limited in his characterization.

Yes, he was based on Karl Lagerfeld and so he was still a snob.

I was more thinking of a young male pony who's just into fashion. He doesn't need to want to make it his profession. Just having a stereotypically feminine hobby without being camp gay.

I thought it was cute that they showed Big Mac with Twilight's old doll again. He's really adorable, I agree with you on expanding his character.

but fashion is rarity's profession, isn't it?

Urgh, I hate the word "problematic." It's one of those words that's lost all its meaning to me, it's just a bunch of syllables. Nothing against you, I just don't like that word.

I'm not saying that they should genderswap the show, it's just that I've seen a TON of hate towards people who just wanted to draw some goofy male pony fanart or write a silly little fanfiction- most of it with a decidedly SJW-ish bent, and by that I mean raging, frothing-at-the-mouth, grab the torch and pitchfork sort of thing.

Personally I'm pretty live-and-let-live about this sort of thing. I like the show as-is, I like the genderswapped fanworks. I think it could be really interesting to figure out what a male Rarity or a male Fluttershy would be like, or male Cutie Mark Crusaders.

By the way, have you read On A Cross and an Arrow? It's a fic where the main cast accidentally ends up in a world where everyone is genderswapped, and they meet the guy versions of themselves. It's really good, one of my favorite fics out of any fandom, ever.

Well, it seems to me that you have just suffered a lot from SJWs.
It's important to make a distinction between people who point out social justice issues and social justice WARRIORS.

Funny, I have seen more hate for the genderswaps coming from really rabid "f/f is hot, m/m is horrible" type of fans, not from SJers.

I personally like the male version of Rarity a lot. I just don't like that the fandom has pretty much agreed on that he should be gay. Because how dare a man be dramatic and into fashion without wanting to bang other men.

And no, I haven't read that fanfic because I'm not big on reading fanfic about MLP ^^#

Oh yeah, I definitely make a distinction between people interested in social justice issues and SJWs. SJWs to me are like... Rush Limbaugh in reverse. People interested in social justice issues are a lot more calm and are actually willing to explain their points, they don't default to "GOOGLE IT FUCKFACE" if someone is confused or just doesn't understand what's going on.

And yeah, I agree with you on that. I personally can see male Rarity being really into fashion, but not necessarily being gay- maybe he just likes to look classy and hates it when others don't look nice, either? :P

'male fashion addict who isn't presented as a walking, talking gay stereotype'

Wildly off-topic, particularly if you're only looking for cartoon examples, but there's Tony on NCIS and Neal on White Collar.
