Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it difficult to find artists for all the writers for BBs? Maybe the person knows they're bad but doesn't want a writer to feel left out.

Nah, I like the fanmixes. Plus, it's an excuse to write 50000 words of fic that someone will actually read.

then why does it matter if you get a crappy artist for your Magnum Opus?

I mean, since it seems to matter so little in the face of fanmixes and the fact that you just luuuuuuv to wriiiiite for someone eeeeeelse.

It is. There are always like - double the writer sign ups as compared to the artist sign ups. Kinda sucks, because there is nothing cooler than personal art for your fic!

I've never participated in a bang - what does happen if there are too many writers and too few artists? Do they limit the participants, or do some just not get art?

They generally tend to get enough artists - sometimes artists do art for more than one fic. Usually they just pimp it more and then extend the sign up dates.

They're so very fun! I've enjoyed the ones I've done a lot.

I think some artists volunteer to take more than one story.

Usually you have pinchhitters - they do more than one art or take on a fic that's been abandoned by an artist. If even then you can't find an artist (this tends to happen in multifandom bangs because sometimes there's a fic in a fandom no artist knows anything about) usually the moderator of the comm puts something together.
