Don't you love it when shitstorms happen in fandoms you're not in?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-22 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm watching one go down right now from the sidelines and it is utterly glooooooorious. Even the genuinely upset, intelligent, non-batshit insane part of the meltdown is glorious, because I'm not familiar with the canon except for what I've absorbed through osmosis.

Absolutely, but for me, it's always funner to know the information and watch.

Hence, why I miss Legend of Korra

I'm curious as to what this fandom is. My best friend is really into AKB48 so if any dating scandal happens, I don't hear the end of it.

yes. Doctor Who seems to be having a hissy fit over possibly knowing the Doctor's name.

Hell, I love watching them in fandoms I am in. Nothing feels more glorious then watching Dean/Cas and Wincest shippers go at it.

I don't get how they can have a hissy fit over this. Not even Steven Moffat has the balls to pull that shit, and if he did, everyone can yell "DIDN'T HAPPEN" like the half-human thing. Or the four different versions of Gallifrey thing.

This x 1000. I don't get it. We won't hear his actual name, spelled out for us on screen. Never. Not gonna happen.

Re: Don't you love it when shitstorms happen in fandoms you're not in?

I can absolutely see Moffat doing this, just because he thinks he can do no wrong, and the one with all the gold rules, etcetera.

....aaaaaand that is why I will not be watching Nu!Who again. Not even with another showrunner. They've gone too far down the soap opera path, and the fandom clearly thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread (I disagree). Even if someone else does come onboard, the fandom will mutiny, etcetera, so the lousy melodrama and scenery-chewing angst will likely continue.

I'll just be over here re-watching every Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker episode ever, thanks.

You do realize how ridiculous this sounds, right? FANS' OPINIONS WILL NEVER CHANGE EVER. When Old Who is a stellar example of how big a change you can make in a show without alienating fans.

You're not going to be physically harmed if you try it with the next showrunner. I mean, no one's forcing you to if you're just not interested, it's your entertainment choice, but your attempt at rationalizing it is ridiculous.

Re: Don't you love it when shitstorms happen in fandoms you're not in?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-23 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, if fandom changes from squeeing over all the angst and TEH FEEEEEEEEEELS, I will be a very happy nonny. Doesn't seem like they will, from where I'm sitting, given that DW has never been more popular, and these are the reasons cited by the majority of the fandom the show is popular with.

(Tbf I have probably been reading far too much Tumblr.)

If the next run of the show is more like the classic Doctors, and fandom is OK with that (someone complained downthread they found Four "boring", bzuh wut), then I will happily stand corrected. I just honestly don't see it happening, IMO.

Dude? Moffat's not the dictator of all things Who. The Beeb will never let him do it.

I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, everyone has different preferences, but I really hope you're not implying there was no scenery-chewing in Old Who...O.o

Same here! I love watching a fantastic shitstorm a-brewin'. I take shelter, get out the popcorn, and glue myself to the monitor for some glorious silliness.

Yeah, I see this all the time. It's one of the cool things about being in small fandoms (not that they are totally without drama but still)

I tend to scroll past shit that's in a fandom I'm not remotely interested in, so not really I guess.

It is my actual favorite fandom activity EVER. :D And it's not just because I'm emotionally disengaged. Not knowing the specifics of the canon the fans are wanking over gives it a whole layer of excitement and hilarity that you can't experience if you're too familiar with the canon.

Hell, yes. I enjoy wank that happens in my own fandoms too, provided neither I nor people I care about are involved, but sometimes there's really nothing better than watching some other fandom go up in flames.

Sometimes no, sometimes yes; it depends on whether or not I know the fandom. I can never forget the King-Dedede-porn-sold-on-Sears debacle on 4chan, and I discovered it all by pure accident (The wank, not the porn merchandise being sold). XD

Well, one night (or was it a day), I decided to finally dip my toes in 4chan, and lo and behold in the cartoons and comics section of the site! A very new thread about someone finding King Dedede porn merchandise being sold on Sears online!

It was one of the first shitstorms I have ever experienced and it was nothing short of GLORIOUS. There were threads on both Cartoons and Comics and Video Games about it, several people bought the merchandice online and showed it to others once they arrived, people prank-called Sears asking if they sold any "suspicious items" on the store shelves...

And I was there from the very start.

Here's some links:

I prefer them in fandoms I'm in because then I actually understand what's going on. If it's a fandom I'm not familiar with, I get too bored due to not understanding.

This is me exactly. Wank in fandoms I'm not familiar with can be funny, but it's always so much more enjoyable if I'm familiar with the fandom.
