tumblr

(Anonymous) 2013-04-22 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
if you have a mostly fandom-y tumblr and follow other mostly fandom-y tumblrs is it weird if they throw stuff in there that isn't related to fandom at all? Like pictures of food or real life stuff or something.

Idk, tumblr seems like such a less personal space than lj or dw that it sometimes weirds me out when people I follow for, like, Avengers gifs suddenly starts posting pictures of their boyfriend. But then, it IS that person's blog.

Maybe I just don't understand tumblr lol

It's a little surprising to remember that there's a person who exists beyond a fellow fan-chat partner sometimes.

ayrt, maybe that's what the issue is!

Re: tumblr

(Anonymous) 2013-04-22 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, it's part of why I prefer lj, but at the end of the day it's their blog/account so they can post whatever they want. I just hope that they tag it if it's something like gore.

Re: tumblr

(Anonymous) 2013-04-22 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah. I'm used to it. It's their blog and tbh if it's someone I've followed for a long time it's kind of nice to see a more personal side every once in a while.

It's not weird to me unless they do a specific only fandom tumblr like FUCKYEAHSUPERNATURAL!. On those, that would be awkward if they started posting other things. But a regular tumblr? Nope.

That should answer your question

da

eh, I don't know. I get irritated when people continually post things that are unrelated to our shared fandoms, and eventually unfollow them.

I guess I just find the individual people in my fandom(s) interesting for the most part. I wanna know what they're up to, a lot of them are in creative fields or have neat taste in music or cool pets and IDK...

Honestly, this must be my followers. Cuz damned if I can get those jerks to engage with me. I JUST WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THEM!

Re: tumblr

(Anonymous) 2013-04-22 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I would engage with you. My tumblr is a mess of anything that I think is cool so I have fandom right next to puppies right next to pretty photos.

Unless you mean engaging in the sense that you want then to talk about their life? Or do you just want to shoot the breeze?

I just think most of my followers are ghosts are something.

Aw, that sucks. Maybe getting them to open up about their death will help? I hear dead people love talking about how they died.

But yeah, sorry about that. Now I just want to reblog everything on my dash with comments because I don't know if I follow you or not.

I don't know who you are. D: Though let me tell you, the thing that makes me the most sad is when people don't have tags visible. I don't know why, but it very satisfying reading what people tag your stuff with.

Yeah, I keep my tumblr account and my f!s account separate but we have spoken on occasion here.

Then I have good news for you. I tag everything.

That would be the type of follower I am - though it's partially because I just cannot figure out what to say [and my life being eaten by schoolwork.]

I think we have similar understandings about tumblr, OP. I'm never surprised that someone exists behind their online fanon persona, I'm surprised that they'd advertise it like that, on tumblr, which feels so much less personal than LJ or DW to me. But hey, to each their own. ^_^ I barely go there anyway, so I probably won't see whatever they're posting.

I never really thought of Tumblr as a less personal space than lj or dw. It is their blog, and if they tag it, nobody loses. Personally, I get rather concerned about people who only post fandom things, especially if they're only in mainstream fandoms (fuckyeah blogs and things like that notwithstanding). It kind of makes their blog impersonal and I feel like I can't talk to them, if that makes sense?

I have a similar problem but I completely believe they should be able to post what they want.

There's this person I follow that posts some of the funniest and greatest stuff. However, they also use the blog to deal with their depression. Their depression, if I pay attention to it, can really drag me down to a dark place so for me it's a "should I keep following them or not?" I mean, I think it's great that they've found a place where they feel comfortable expressing themselves and they have people to support them. I feel like shit for even thinking of unfollowing them but I did have to think about it seriously since it was detrimental to my emotional wellbeing. Eventually I came up with a tactic for figuring out which post is depressing and which is funny before reading it. I use that and the scroll button as needed.

Seeing as I've always seen the tumblrs I follow frequently have person posts, as well as being part of fashion communities where one purpose is to share pictures of yourself, I never found it real.
Granted, I rarely ever post personal stuff on my main blog anymore. If I have to need to share my random thoughts or my day, I mostly take it to my sideblog (which was supposed to be a true fandom blog tbh but that didn't happen) but if it's something fun and I haven't spammed with many other text posts, I like to talk about non-fandom stuff.
Although I count pictures of food as something ANYONE can do because come on, food.

My blog is like 90% anime crap, but I occasionally post about other things I'm interested in like SJ, fashion, food, and just things I find funny.

I also might make a text post once or twice a day. Sometimes it's fandom related, and sometimes it isn't. Personally, I like seeing the text posts of people I follow because I like to know how they're doing. Sometimes I like or respond to those posts, so the person knows I'm thinking of them.

I mean, I usually meet people through fandom, but then I find out more about them outside of that.

it's only odd if they have an intentionally themed blog like a "fuck yeah" one as said above

everyone tumbls differently

my tumblr is more personal than my lj in many ways

Sometimes it's a bit surprising to see personal stuff on tumblr but it's their space and they should post what they want.

In my experience it takes some getting used to, but I don't mind.

Yeah, honestly, I'd say there's two kinds - personal and themed. My own blog? Just about anything that catches my interest, from fandom stuff to uni to cooking to... I don't know... complaining about iTunes, heh. If they do have a fandom blog, though, I do find it weird when they post personal material. Like ask blogs that are packed with OOC stuff and no actual... asks.
