What bothers me here is the thinking that authors get the art 'in return' to their fic? Because no, BBs are not gift exchanges and the author didn't write the fic for me. The art is illustrating the specifics of fic but the artists don't make it any more for the author than it is for the artist. Putting in effort doesn't entitle you to someone else's spare time.
