... For some reason, that image is more disturbing to me than either the demonic troll or the weird-faced Tony Stark.

Why? With the gazebo? Why?

Uh, blame DnD and a player who assumed that when the GM said gazebo they meant a monster. The player then proceeded to attack it. So the GM, frustrated, brought it to life to attack the party.

... Okay, that's pretty funny. And hey, way to roll with it, that GM.

Yeessss. I only wish my GM was that cool when I used to play.

Maybe someday~

Oh God, I've seen the meme but never heard the backstory. Sounds like a legendary GM.

Yeah, I want a GM like that. Why are all the good GMs taken? *stereotypical pout*

I have the greatest GM who would totally pull something like that. I am a lucky person.
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-04-25 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, indeed. You lucky person, you.

May your games be ever joyous.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-25 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, reminds me of a game session where my old SO didn't know what a pallet was when the DM described a room with a washbasin and a pallet in it.

The DM had the pallet attack his character.

That day went down in infamy.

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-04-25 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahaaa, did your ex-SO ask what a pallet was or did he just attack first too?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-25 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
He was like, what is a pallet?

DM: You don't know?

SO: No! I never heard of pallet! (Started getting angry because he was a know-it-all and hated not knowing something that OMG other people knew)

So the DM had the pallet attack his cavalier. The rest of us were dying from laughter.

Oh my gosh that's fantastic. See, that's why you never get pissy at GMs.

Sounds like a fantastic memory. Thank you for sharing it with me.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-25 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, omg. If only my GM had been that awesome back when I played D&D, I might still be playing.
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-04-25 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Same.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2013-04-25 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Holy Ghosts of usenet past!
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-04-25 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I actually got this from a friend of mine. Is that where the story originated?

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2013-04-25 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Originally in a fan magazine, but it made the jump to usenet and email legend by '88 which is where I encountered it.

Woooooow~ I had no idea it had been around for so long. That's a long life for a story like this.

Thanks for letting me know! That was cool.

*snicker* Oh my, Knights of the Dinner Table! I loved those comics!

Late comment is late.
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-04-27 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't heard of that comic. Was it good?

Pfff, it's fine.
dancing_serpent: (Default)

[personal profile] dancing_serpent 2013-04-27 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
It was awesome! The guys all had their totally predictable reactions to everything their GM threw at them, and that was huge part of the fun. "I'll waste him with my crossbow!" for example, or "I'll slash him with my Hackmaster +12!"

They never talked to the NPCs, always went for attack straight away - cue endlessly frustrated GM.
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-04-27 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds hilarious.

Wait, did they ever do audio recordings?
dancing_serpent: (Default)

[personal profile] dancing_serpent 2013-04-27 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea. *g*

But hey, here is the Gazebo strip.
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-04-27 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I'll start reading it.
