I'm sorry you have such a creepy roommate.

I feel the same. I would have an issue with the roommate too.

I didn't read the other comments before now. Apparently we are in the minority, which honestly surprised me.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Even if you're really overexcited about sharing something with someone it's very possible to express that in a non-creepy way. The roommate could have said, "Oh hey, I was thinking of rewatching that. Would you like to watch it together?" Or "I love that series. What episode are you on? Tell me when you finish. I'd love to talk to with you about it."

But listening in on another person while they're doing their own thing is creepy to me. The OP also says "They even went as far" which tells me that this is one of many creepy things the person did.

I don't know. I guess I just expect people to be able to control or conduct themselves in a noninvasive fashion that isn't overbearing. I mean, we all make mistakes but there's a line, generally, and repeated unwanted behavior crosses that for me.

I'm really not seeing why merely listening to see what ep someone else is on is creepy. Unless the walls are thick, it's usually fairly easy to hear a television or computer in more than one room, and constantly asking every other day "What episode are you on?" would get annoying fast.

It sounds like there are a lot more issues going on here, but from what the OP posted, I'm feeling more sympathy for the roommate.

I'm probably just pulling from personal experience. When I think of it, it's not a matter of simple overhearing, which I would have no problem with, but trying to listen in on someone while they're trying to have private time and attempting to not let the person know they're eavesdropping.

The fact that there seems to be more going on is what makes me sympathize with the OP. I'm assuming that the OP just pointed out one behavior out of many that has upset the OP. Normally it's not one small or large event that turns someone away. It repeated and varying actions that do.

Again, I'm interpreting the secret from the perspective of having had creepy relationship with people in the past. So, really, either of us could be right unless the OP comes and clarifies.

and attempting to not let the person know they're eavesdropping.

Wait, where do you get that from? 'cause from what I see in the secret, yeah, the roommate is listening, but there's nothing that she's trying to conceal it, especially since she's presumably listening in for the purpose of being able to talk about whatever ep OP is currently on.

But I guess I'm interpreting the secret from the perspective of being the kind of person most likely to be labeled an obsessed somewhat-creepy roommate, just because I get super-excited about whatever I'm currently into, and I don't always know where the lines of social boundaries lie. It's easy to make mistakes and come on too strong.

Mostly I got it from the rest of the negativity expressed by the OP combined with my own experiences.

Because if the roommate's just randomly overhearing it because she's in the same room then why the fuck if the OP upset?

You know, believe me, I can be that creepy person too and maybe it's just me, but I find honesty the best way to figure out if you've gone too far. It may be awkward but I just put on a bashful face and go, "Hey, I'm really excited by this but I'm not bothering you, am I? Because if I am I can totally do something else. I don't want to make you uncomfortable or anything." Because, yeah, I have come on too strong too. Honesty and asking directly has always worked best for me when I'm worried about it.

OP is not obligated to have anyone inserting themselves into any aspect of their life. Nor is OP obligated to share a fandom with a roommate, or anyone for that fact.

Personal space.

I completely sympathize with the OP. Who they want to include in their activities is their personal business and just because the other person is a roommate doesn't obligate the OP to share everything with them.

Privacy issues alone can be a bother, let alone others taking sides with someone who doesn't have a legitimate claim on the OP's time and attention on top of it.
