It sounds like you may have Misophonia. I suffer from it, too, and the easiest way to get around these situations is using headphones+music.

JFC there's a syndrome for every little aspect of day-to-day life now, isn't there?

Re: STOP CHEWING OMG

(Anonymous) 2013-04-25 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Misophonia is an actual disorder, it's not a label. People who suffer from it have an automatic fight or flight response to certain sounds. Like hitting the gas and going from 0 to 100 in a second. It's not just "Oh dear, that is annoying".

You silly.

I don't care what names you give every little thing. As long as you don't try to use this as an excuse for anything. Everyone has little noise pet peeves.

Re: STOP CHEWING OMG

(Anonymous) 2013-04-25 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
lol Troll. Misophonia is a neurological disorder.

Re: STOP CHEWING OMG

(Anonymous) 2013-04-26 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, a pretty stupid one. It's only symptom "People who have misophonia are most commonly annoyed, or even enraged, by such ordinary sounds as other people clipping their nails, brushing teeth, eating, breathing, sniffing, talking, sneezing, yawning, walking, chewing gum, laughing, snoring, whistling or coughing; certain consonants; or repetitive sounds."

So being annoyed by a sound means you have misophonia. Congratulations, the majority of the population have it.

Now hyperacusis is an ACTUAL auditory disorder.

Eh, it goes beyond mere annoyance, at least for me. I get incredibly violent urges and have to leave the room just listening to my cats lick their paws. My first instinct when hearing people smacking is to want to scream at them and throw something heavy at their heads. Since that's not socially acceptable for some reason, if I can't leave the room or politely plug up my ears I'll just discreetly injure myself as a personal distraction.

+1 hyperacusis IS an actual disorder (think piercing, head-splitting pain, the worst headache you've ever had in your life, in a split second that feels like forever...that's a bare approximation of hyperacusis); "OMG STOP CHEWING" ain't it.

OP needs to suck it up and accept the fact that there are other people in the universe, doling things, besides OP.

Er, I have actual diagnosed hyperacusis and it's nothing like that for me.

Edit: In fact, a lot of the symptoms for me are similar to what people are describing here as misophonia -- sounds can be really grating to me, even if they're quiet, and not only in quiet rooms. This is because all sound is at a higher volume for me -- I have to wear earplugs to the movies and when I go to clubs and such or I do get pain (but nothing like "the worst headache I've ever had in my life in a split second that feels like forever") -- and so I pick up even small things much more easily than a normal person would.

You're trying too hard to troll bb. Must be more subtle!

I know, right? Just like those normal sexual people who go by that fake label Demisexuals, lmao

Re: STOP CHEWING OMG

Demisexuals: aka the vast majority of the human race.

aka poor tumblr kids that needed to feel special about something.

How do you feel about asexuals?

Oh yes, demisexual wank that is totally related to the topic of conversation. Exactly what we need.

Re: STOP CHEWING OMG

(Anonymous) 2013-04-25 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Fucking this. When a majority of people for decades have complained about the sound of people chewing, it's not a disorder, it's just an everyday annoyance that we have to deal with.

Re: STOP CHEWING OMG

(Anonymous) 2013-04-25 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think the majority of people do though? Not to this extent. That's like saying that for decades people have complained about being distracted and so ADHD is not a real disorder, just an everyday annoyance.

Re: STOP CHEWING OMG

(Anonymous) 2013-04-25 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I have NEVER met a person who enjoys the sound of someone chewing in a quiet room. Unless it is some kind of weird fetish.

Re: STOP CHEWING OMG

(Anonymous) 2013-04-26 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Most people I know don't even notice the sound of people chewing. Unless it's an odd person chomping open mouthed on their doritos or something.

No.

Re: STOP CHEWING OMG

(Anonymous) 2013-04-26 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
People who suffer from it have attacks when triggered, some are brought to tears, some want to lash out at the sounds (Which are more than just "lawl chewing"). They're repetitive sounds, and they cause a very large amount of stress to the individual. Far more stress than a normal person would have fun these sounds. I know you're trolling, but you're doing a pretty poor job of it.
