Why would you have to write in all the little discriminations? That's ridiculous. Stop that.

This. I just don't bother writing discrimination in for female/POC/whatever characters, and no one's ever given me grief for it. Especially since I like genre fiction where everything's dang unrealistic, anyway. I mean it's way less out there then unicorns and cute aliens and such. I don't see why you think you have to write them in.

This. I don't fucking get it.

The exception is when the canon material is already highly discriminating against women. For example when the canon is set in the real/historically accurate Dark Ages.

But when it's just fantasy? No, I don't get it.
I can write female characters without having them face slut-shaming, discrimination in the workplac and thousand reminders that they're "not worth as much as a man".

Also, isn't this what escapism is all about? Not creating a 100% accurate representation of what the real world you live in is like?

Hey look, it's why I don't like A Song of Ice and Fire: a fantasy series in a fantasy world with dragons and metamorphic assassins and snow zombie hordes, but aesthetically similar enough to Shitty Medieval Europe that the author can go "oh, all the sexism and racism is historical accuracy"

I like the series, but what you said about the sexism and racism is what I really hate about it. Even worse, when watching the TV show I have noticed that female nudity is all over the place. Like they even had to visually stress that women as a group are heavily sexually exploited in-universe.

I think it would be unrealistically utopian and annoying to write a society which had no prejudices at all, but they could be different from the ones that exist in real life.
