"Anyway, you do know a feminist can by misogynistic right?"
This

I have seen lots of people who call themselves "feminists" go on and off about how wearing make-up and high heels makes a woman a disgusting piece of shit, because she helps strenghten the perception that women are superficial, dumb broads or something like that.

Yeah. I see that all the time. There was a post that just had me so done with some feminist website I was looking at because one of the articles point blank told me that if I were to get married and take my husband's last name then I was not a feminist. I was so disappointed with that site I haven't been back. And this is coming from someone who loves her last name so much that I am never going to change it for any reason.

Heck, I, myself, have done/said misogynistic things. I'm ashamed about it now. I have apologized and tried to change. But did that make me not a feminist back then? I don’t think so because at the time I was still trying for that equality in the best way I knew how. I made a mistake, obviously, but that does not negate everything else. I feel feminism is a growing process, not a hard line designation.

This.

Also, there's a reason that my Women's Studies Intro class in college was called, "Intro to Feminism(s)," plural.

Huh, that's interesting. My school doesn't do that as far as I know so I think it's cool that your school does. I've never actually taken a feminism class. What do they talk about first? The history of it or do they jump into present issues? How do you think the pluralistic view your school took affected the teaching of the subject?

This particular Intro to Feminism class was taught by Prof. Bettina Aptheker at UC Santa Cruz. She may have retired by now but when I was going there they were preparing for that by filming every lecture of the class for posterity - it was incredibly popular, something like 1/4 of the student body took it before graduation.

And as I recall, she talked about the plurality of feminisms in the very first lecture as a way to frame the topic. And in that lecture she also talked about the word feminism as an "f word." So the class started out with an interrogation of what the topic is and what it means to be even studying it.

The history and present issues were generally mixed up, in that each week addressed themes, such as "Feminism and Race" in which we learned about the relationship between abolitionists and the suffrage movement, the Womanists critiques of Second Wave feminisms whiteness, and into contemporary debates about feminism, race and ethnicity, i.e. Muslim feminists and the veil, western attitudes on female circumcision, etc.

Wow, I didn't know any feminist courses were that popular. They tend not to get wait lists or completely fill up as far as I know.

That all sounds really cool. I almost wish I had taken a class like that were I am. It not only seems really informative but actually promotes critical thinking on your own and painting the subject as a far more complicated topic than most people I've encountered do.

Thank you for sharing with me.

... that's not the same thing at all. If someone goes on and on about how wearing make-up makes a woman a piece of shit, they're not a feminist, as you've already pointed out with your use of quotation marks.

That's not misogyny. That's an opinion you don't agree with.

A misogenistic opinion that a woman can't live her life how she wants, dress how she wants, BE how she wants.

Any feminist who knows what the fuck they are talking about should disagree with that.

I see you've met my cousin!

There's also the "any woman who works in sex work is filthy and stupid and a junkie" line. LOVE that one.
