I don't like her because her character (and Garth's) has always felt like they were conceived out of a "Shit, we need some new recurring characters fans will like since we killed all the rest off!" discussion in the writers room and they're both so... constructed to be likable and perfect to the show's audience it grates on me? She's also been snuggled into the Winchester Inner Circle whiplash-quickly it feels like.

I think it's great that there's a recurring LGBTQ+ character who has their own agency, isn't played for jokes and all, but it's every else that drives me nuts :x

also people acting like the comments above, "omg how can you NOT like them they're perfect <3333"

These are really good points. Charlie doesn't bother me too much (outside of my normal, getting annoyed by the way Felicia Day "acts") but I felt like her coming back was really random and I didn't understand the last episode where all of a sudden she was extremely attached to the brothers? Especially considering how at first after seeing their life she wanted nothing to do with them.

And she does come off as written so the fans will not be offended by her presence.

Yeah, I'll admit I really don't think Day's a very good actress (there's residual resentment due to Dragon Age-related things for me too) either. I dunno if I'd say it's weird that she'd come back in the way she did, or at least, it makes perfect sense to me that someone with her skills would be extremely curious about this new world she's been exposed to and start poking around. She would be a very valuable resource to keep around, just.. not in an interviewing the witnesses capacity, as Dean thought would be an A+ idea because he's never gone to do info gathering by himself or anything before.

Nevermind how she gets to go in the secret compound, get hugs from everybody (took Cas 4 years but she took 3 eps okay) and so on. I mean, if Charlie had been around for longer than that, I still wouldn't find her very endearing but I wouldn't be quite so blind-sided by the sudden buddy-buddy attitude.

Though, when the "omg she has a SECRET!" sequence with the IDs was going I had a hope that the "Charlie" personality was an act to get close to the Winchesters. Or at least that something else was going on to explain this aside from bad writing. In that situation, she wouldn't necessarily be evil or anything, still a super-smart hacker, but she still tries to make herself unassuming. She has read the Carver books in the time between her eps, so maybe she has an agenda, maybe she wanted to see if she could bring her mom back, idk.

Giving a girl a hug has zero risk of being perceived as unmanly, so I think that comparison is really, really nonsensical in the context of Dean's whole manly man image.

That's true, though from what I recall, Dean's not really been one for showing physical affection (in a friend capacity) at all, so. Though that was until he turned into a hug machine this season at least, but that's a whole other thing.

Exactly. Everything about her just feels aggressively forced to me.

Including her acting.
