The fans that say that are dumb. Ignore them.

I have a slash pairing that I strongly prefer one topping the other too, OP. Look, don't let anyone shame you for having a preference--and in the real world there are people that are exclusively one or the other. You're not doing anything wrong and neither are they. It's cool.

I'm not into the Star Trek reboot, but if the fandom is truly like that I'm sorry to hear it. Maybe try getting into some anime/manga/video game fandoms (they're pretty much the complete opposite when it comes to the whole top/bottom thing)?

Yeah, no kidding. To the point where I've seen pseudo-ship wars between people who ship A/B (A tops) and people who ship B/A (B tops).

I've been staring at this and I'm confused.
What does preferring someone to top in a ship have to do with "hetting it up"?

I assume because in a het relationship most of the time the man is going to exclusively be the "top" (the person putting the nether rod in the squish mitten). Of course there is things like pegging, but the majority will be with the man "topping".

The OP is saying that someone who wants to make just one person topping all the time is putting one character in the role of the "women".

Apparently het relationships always have a top.

We'd better tell our significant others we've been doing this wrong.

They are my favorite Star Trek ship. :3 I don't really care who tops, but I do enjoy when Bones uses a lot endearments when he does top. Darlin'. Unf.

Why do people like to turn fanfiction preferences into a BIG IMPORTANT SERIOUS ISSUE.

No seriously, why? I don't get it.

Eh, you like what you like. Finding top!Bones/Kirk more stimulating is not some terrible thing.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-29 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been heavily involved in Kirk/McCoy fandom for four years, and I've never heard arguments about topping/bottoming, let alone the phrase "hetting it up" when it comes to this pairing.

OP, are you maybe extrapolating from other fandoms? Or just hanging out somewhere realy weird?

I'd like to read a fic where McCoy is the initiator of the relationship. All the fic I've read features Kirk as an indiscriminate slut who just happens to fall in love with a reluctant or repressed McCoy.

The only problem with position preferences is when you judge people who have different preferences or tell them they shouldn't write it.

And the idea that preferring someone on top is somehow making the relationship into a het one bugs me. Women can be on top too.

[personal profile] tabaqui 2013-04-29 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Because nobody ever tops or bottoms in the het world? Wha? Those people are morons.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-29 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It's totally fine to have a preference, but being squicked out or triggered by one over the other IS messed up.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
OMG. Bossy Bones is to die for!!! Keep writing the way you want to write. You aren't "hetting" them. You have a preference. Nothing at all wrong with that!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
don't listen to those silly 'let me tell u how to /properly/ gay; these are the axioms... ho-ho-ho' ppl, sp

search your feelings, you know it to be true!

I don't get this secret. I've read a ton of K/M and in 80% or so, Kirk is on the bottom (though anons above are right, he's usually the initiator). It's so rare for Bones to be on the bottom that someone created a bottom-mccoy comm.

Who cares what fandom says? The SJW position over pairings and positions is so tired.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
What kind of dopey fans are you listening to? I have an OTP but I can only read fic where #A is the bottom. No matter how well written, I am squicked by the prospect of # being the top. It's a gut reaction, even a physical "ick" but the other way? I get off on in SOOOOOOOOOO much. Nothing wrong with it, it just is.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
They're dumbshits. The key to fandom porn is "Whatever floats your boat." If they don't understand that, that's too damn bad for them. They haven't found boner nirvana yet.

YES. Bones/Kirk? YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION.

A lot of the reason that I like it that way is just due to the age difference. Bones is more world weary than Kirk (yes, even in this version, imo) and has more experience in things.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-22 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Not sure in which corner you hang out, but I never noticed such a judgment in my Kirk/McCoy groups.
