Huh. Well. Admittedly, I have had fantasies about Josh Hutchinson as Peeta a few times.

Never mind about Peeta, it's the chestnut thing that fascinates me.

Since everyone else is already asking about the chestnuts... what is it about Peeta/Katniss that bothers you? I've seen canon pairings that come off as kind of weird to me, but that's never been one of them.

It's really just the final book when Katniss is all 'I didn't want babies but Peeta basically wore me down'. The whole ship is Katniss being not-very-gently cajoled into staying with Peeta (to be fair, not always by Peeta).

But you're right, canon!Katniss/Peeta aren't that terrible to each other.

And if I were with Peeta, I could remind him that he used to work with bread and his name is basically 'pita' spelt differently :D

That's how I feel about them too. It's not like it's a completely terrible relationship, but from the way I perceived the arc of it, I can't get behind it.

Ah, I can see where that could get really uncomfortable.

Personally, I got the impression that it wasn't so much that Katniss didn't want children, period, as that she didn't want children because of the world they'd be born into- and that once the Games were over permanently, she was free to reevaluate that decision. I wouldn't have minded an ending where she still opted to not have kids, but at the same time I never thought of it as coerced.

But I'm with you on the pita jokes. I don't know that I could live with someone with a name like that and resist punning.

The world sucked ass. Of course she didn't want children being born into that, to be chess pieces on a board for rich people's entertainment.

Katniss was always good with children (the way she was with Prim and Rue). It made perfect sense to me that she'd have them when the threat of the Capitol was gone.

(Yeah, not gonna get kids myself and I'd like more people with no kids in media, but... Katniss never struct me as one.)

Forget about THG; my first thought was, "Wait, aren't those buckeyes in that photo?" Which led to a Google search as to the differences between chestnuts and buckeyes, and wondering if that cool basket of nuts I have set out as decor are actually chestnuts, and oh lawd I'm so confused, and I want candy.

Also, I'm now thinking about the last time I sat around naked with the boyfriend eating pistachios. :) Thanks for that.

I've been really, pleasantly, surprised by the excellent quality of writing of some of the Katniss/Peeta fics coming from Ao3.

Some very quality writing in some of those stories.
