022. I agree. I think it's so vicious because a lot of people in the fandom don't want to think of themselves as in fandom, so they cut down the fanfic writers, and anyone who asks questions. When I was in HP fandom, people were wanky, yeah, but they were also friendly and helpful, which the people in VB fandom just aren't. It's why I try to help people out in [livejournal.com profile] venturebrothers.

There's no reason for us to be mean to each other, we all love the same show. :(

Okay, I agree with THAT, about the feelings towards fanfic writers 100%

I was snarked at when I posted a link to a fic in VB once. Yeah.

I mean, I don't know, there isn't really a sense of community when you look at it. Granted, it's a very small fandom, but it's honestly harder to make friends in than any other fandom I've ever been involved with.

[identity profile] runcible.livejournal.com 2007-09-17 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I do agree. The only reason I did sense community in it is because I had just come from Hitchhiker's Guide where half the people are nerdy 33 year old fanboys or are teenyboppers who saw the movie. No one works there. Or Harry Potter where most of the people don't even care for the canon. So VB was different in that everyone actually liked the canon and the creators. Not much disdain for the material. So that was different. All my other fandoms, the creators are too super famous to care about the fans or are dead, so yeah. It was just different that people actually cared about the show, the creators included.

But when it comes to fan to fan relations, not relations to the show/makers of show? Yeah, pretty cold reception. No one wants to admit they're in a fandom. :( If I hadn't found [livejournal.com profile] terrie's DevArt and then [livejournal.com profile] deathmance days after, I probably wouldn't have any friends. I'm just lucky that I met some cool people.

OP: The funny thing is that it was your comment that a Molotov/Dr. Girlfriend fic would make you feel ill that was the deciding factor in me making this secret.

SNAP YES

And that's fine, but I would never have cut that person down, or even said anything had they posted it somewhere.

A derogatory comment posted on fandomsecrets isn't really different from one posted in a fan community. It's still...not that nice...

So, in your opinion, the only way for a fandom to have a strong community is for no one to ever disagree with anyone else ever?

That was an anonymously posted image that was made because the maker knew that there would be dissent. I do not like that pairing. Anyone else is MORE THAN WELCOME to ship it, but personally, the thought does make me feel ill, the same way hentacle, mpreg and various other things do.

That has nothing to do with my belief that people in the VB fandom should get along. See, I'm more than able to separate my personal likes and dislikes from my interactions with the general fandom population. I don't think that other people need to ship what I ship, and I don't feel like I have to support other people's ships/theories/moms if I don't want to.

But we should all just get the fuck along anyway.

I have no qualms with you not liking it. I suppose it was just the way it was phrased.

OMG
