It's the Moonlighting curse. If you base a show on sexual tension, they can only bait each other for so long before it's ludicrous that they haven't hooked up. Once they do, it usually ruins the dynamic.

The ironic thing is that apparently what ruined Moonlighting was:
1. Cybill Shepard got pregnant, and rather than hide her in a baggy coat or write it into the Bruce Willis relationship, the show had the brilliant idea of marrying her off to some other guy.

2. Due to writing/production/scheduling problems, the actors weren't in very many scenes together anyhow.

3. Due to some of those same writing/production/scheduling problems, the show kept having to take hiatuses and show reruns.

The problem wasn't that they slept together, it was that they slept together and then the show went crazyflakes and by the time things were un-crazyflaked, they were back together, and the relationship actually had a shot, nobody cared if they were boning anymore. But everybody just blames it on the sex.

I thought that happened before Moonlighting with Scarecrow and Mrs. King.

The Moonlighting curse wasn't really what everybody says it is. It was a combination of horrific writing (possibly resulted by writer staff changes), scheduling issues, cast's careers, basically a number of unfortunate issues.

In my head, there's an alternative reality where they Did It Right.

In the meanwhile, the first two seasons are perfection.
