I agree! I subconsciously let more cartoony/animefied characters get away with exaggerated dramatics and story tropes; If characters are designed to look realistic, I tend to judge those characters and plots with more realistic standards and expectations.

I actually don't mind how Cloud looks in AC (the final product was much better than the first stuff released in early trailers), I only have a problem with how they turned him into Squall. ugh.

What I do have a problem with is how Tifa looks. They gave her black hair, brown eyes and a haircut. ughhhh

I hate the crap out of Advent Children, but I love watching it because it's a very pretty movie, fanservice and terribleness notwithstanding.

That's never going to be a thing that happens.

But if there were, I look forward to playing it because everyone will look like Gackt. Gackt!Tifa, Gackt!Barret, Gackt!Hojo it'll be great. I'll preorder that shit immediately ♥

Whine some more. We're hardly the first fandom where people pick and choose portions of canon to work with or ignore/embrace reboots as their preferences lie. If you want to be an OGC-only fan, nobody's stopping you. But all this acting like a remake is going to bring about the apocalypse is fucking old.

A FF7 remake is one of those things I'm incredibly conflicted about. On one hand, if it were done right and stayed true to the original game it could be AMAZING. Seriously imagine how hilarious Wall Market would be in HD. It's hard to imagine anything I'd want more.

On the other hand, there's no way in hell it's ever going to be done right, so I should probably just hope it never happens.

As for graphics/art style, Squeenix could conceivably do it for a handheld. All their 3D handheld games still use that cartoony style.

I liked Advent Children just because of the pretty, since it's not like there was more to it.

But the last part of your message is what really turns me off from an FFVII remake, too: I really don't trust what they'd do with the original content, let alone what they'd add on.

God only knows what they'd end up doing with the wallmarket and the whole don corneo and honey bee in segments alone, let alone with anything that actually mattered.

Advent Children was a fanfiction that got made into pretty pretty CGI. And it was pretty. God damn was it ever pretty.

If they ever remade the game they would have to do it verbatim--I want my Honeybee Inn plus all the raunchy shit that went on with blocky characters (Cloud in a bathtub, President Shinra being a super creeper)--but I suspect they'd edit it heavily, which would be lame and sucktastic. Also; AVALANCHE was a terrorist group before they decided to save the Planet in a different way. You know. Terrorists. People that blow shit up.

The slums alone would be worth seeing in epic high definition, but they already kind of fucked it up with the following games that they did. It was bizarre; I remember in Crisis Core the upper level of Midgar was the side that was smoggy, cold, claustrophobic and green, and the slums were always bright and since most cutscenes were bottom-up frames, there was always a sky being seen. I call bullshit, almost literally a reversal. It wasn't even all that dirty. The original game left me with a distinct impression of a green-tinted, slimy Calcutta nightmare.

Which is just one of the many reasons I hate Crisis Core. But I digress...

i am less worried about them ruining the characters' personalities in a remake since advent children complete came out

but i agree that i would want less realism in the animation, now that i think about it, because they make all of the characters so generically pretty when they do high CGI that it's one sharp turn from taking a nose dive off a cliff into uncanny valley

Honestly AC Cloud just doesn't register as CLOUD to me. He just looks like a Cloud cosplayer rather than a character I've loved for years. Hell, the animated movie Last Order look truer to the characters than the super-fancy CGI.

And we all know they'd ruin a FF7 remake. They'd alter the story to add in their stupid extended universe retcons, take out all the goofy and silly bits, have One Winged Angel play whenever Sephiroth showed up, make everyone super pretty, etc. Everyone creamed their pants at the PS3 tech demo that redid the intro, but it just horrified me.

I'm so bored by all those people whining about a FFVII remake...
We already have all kinds of spinoffs, adaptions, sequels and prequels. The franchise is so dead and dried up no amount of Livestream is going to fix it. The original game wasn't even that bad, graphics wise. What I'd really like is a remake of FFVI´. That would be great.

Word! I think that FFVII's scenes and dialogues are tied to its style. Super realism would be awkward, you'd have to rewrite the whole thing. You could say they did something similar with FFIII/IV already but idk, that's still cartoony.

The hilariously polygonal chibi graphics were actually one of the most charming things about the original game to me. Blocky Cloud was adorable. So was Reno. And Cloud was even more adorable when crossdressing.

In Advent Children, they looked all serious and bishounen-y and had none of that original charm. I was sad.

I'm not going to watch Cloud getting hit on by Mukki in realistic 3-D remakes. Including the stripping. Neverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. o_O
