Is it generally agreed to be the worst? Genuinely asking, I'm unfamiliar with fandom consensus, if there is one.

I mean, it goes all over everywhere and gets unfocused and spins its wheels and has Trickster Mode, but at least it doesn't spend fifty panels on sylladex shenanigans, which are kind of amusing to me but a real trial to get through when I'm trying to sell someone else on the story.

The main reason I'm less interested in 6 is that it doesn't focus so much on the characters I'm most interested in, so I don't understand why, if the Alphas are your favorites, you'd think it's the worst.

(Unless your brain is still oozing out your ears from Trickster Mode.)

No? Probably depends on which circles within circles within circles of fandom you hang around, but it's all mixed. You get folk saying the first act sucks because it takes forever to speed up the pacing, and you get folk elsewhere saying Act 5 (the troll half) is particularly shit and the point where it declines as a story, and you even get the weirdoes who think the first Intermission was terrible (and they are simply wrong).

My own opinion mostly jives with yours though, especially regarding how disorganised it feels. It's a lot of TEENAGER DRAMA to me, but it's highlighted by things like the introduction of Calliope and Caliborn, as well as the super uplifting "Dirk: Synchronize/Unite", that makes it worth it for me. Like those moments actually feel like payoff to me.

So much this. I have a friend I've been trying to get into this, but the sylladex and strifing crap in Act I is really getting in the way.

ayrt

I ended up reading it to my sister while she played The Sims. "Okay, uh... blah blah sylladex shenanigans... blah blah... okay, here's story... all right, now you actually need to watch this part." She humored me for an impressively long time before falling in love with the trolls.

Act 6 has its moments, but mostly it just feels really disjointed, introduces a lot of new characters who don't really do anything and feel like they're just there to pad the flash games, and the stuff with the characters we've grown attached to over the past 5 acts focuses on boring teenage relationship drama.
...Actually, that's my problem with Act 6 in general, it feels really bogged down by boring teenage relationship drama that doesn't really go anywhere and doesn't seem to have much of a point.

Those are all good points, and I'm pretty sick of the teenage relationship drama myself... although I still might prefer it to sylladex shenanigans.
