Because nobody in your program has told you about the JLPT? It's a standard fluency test given by a Japanese agency and it's pretty much all you really need to make it clear on the paperwork that you understand Japanese, I think. Your degree is just icing.

I've heard about it but not thought about it much. My high school teacher has talked about it, but my professor hasn't at all. So it kind of fell away from my mind. But I'll look into it again. Thanks, anon.

There are sites that has practice questions. There should be some on the official JLPT site. I'd start with 3 and work up or down depending on how easy the questions are. My next step'd be look for books and exam materials for JLPT level 2, for example, and see how well I do on the mock exams.
