Huh, the fluency test thing as an alternative never occured to me. I suppose I can look into that. Thanks for the idea!

Though by the end of this semester I'll be almost done with the minor, so I might just stick it out anyway.;; Also every Japanese class is pretty much a guaranteed A, and my GPA desperately needs a boost right now.;;

Because nobody in your program has told you about the JLPT? It's a standard fluency test given by a Japanese agency and it's pretty much all you really need to make it clear on the paperwork that you understand Japanese, I think. Your degree is just icing.

I've heard about it but not thought about it much. My high school teacher has talked about it, but my professor hasn't at all. So it kind of fell away from my mind. But I'll look into it again. Thanks, anon.

Huh... wonder what level I should test for...

da

There are sites that has practice questions. There should be some on the official JLPT site. I'd start with 3 and work up or down depending on how easy the questions are. My next step'd be look for books and exam materials for JLPT level 2, for example, and see how well I do on the mock exams.

Fluency tests are good, but if you plan to seriously use Japanese for work, I advise you against having it as your only proof as people will still ask you where did you learn the language.

Self studying and other non-serious-courses are looked down on and if you mention your university, they'll wonder why you don't have the title to prove it, so it's better if you really do keep with it. Even if you don't learn that much, it'll be worth having it in your resume.
