Why is this a secret? Honestly curious if there's something I'm not getting (don't play the Sims)

(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Sims fandom is... home to some of the most batshit crazy SJWs on the internet. Something like this tends to be seen as OMG TEH SEXIST!!1one

Nah. Not for wanting girls. Now if someone made a secret saying, "I only want boys," THEN it would be happy SJW tiemz at Sim Secret.

Exactly what I was thinking. I kept staring at it and going, "wait... so anon is ashamed or afraid to say aloud that they don't really care about the genders of their fictional children matching up to some kind of ranking system or 'perfect set'? Why is this information they wish to conceal?"

(Anonymous) 2013-05-13 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto. Obviously I don't know what your reasons are, but for me, it's because I have a lot more fun "dressing up" virtual girls than I do with boys. Not taking transvestism into account, they have so many more options when it comes to hair, clothing, and of course makeup. (And because of this, CC creators make way more stuff for girls, which leads into a bit of a vicious cycle.)

How is this a secret? I want all of my sims to have red hair and skin two and a fauxhawk. It's your game play it how you want.

I see you're a Rhys Fitzhugh fan, anon :P

And I wouldn't mind if all of my Sims never had any kids, period.
In fact, I have mods set in place specifically to prevent that from happening.

So what?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-13 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
isn't there mods to pick and chose if your sim's have a boy or a girl, too?
bored_bitch: (Lunaii_self)

[personal profile] bored_bitch 2013-05-13 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably.

I have like a literal shit ton of mods for my game.
I even have one where you can barbecue and eat your Sim baby (or spawn a new one for the same purpose).

Ahh, J. M. Pescado, that wonderful sick genius.

If we're talking about the Sims 2:

Actually, that's the one thing there isn't a mod for. You can, however, save right before the birth*, then quit and reload over and over until it's the sex you want.

*This can't be done after the "there's a new family member on the way" message pops up, so do it during the labor pains beforehand.

If we're talking about the Sims 3:

Disregard everything I've just said, because I haven't played that one. Sorry!

Sims 3 actually has a gender choosing function written into the game (not a mod). Feed the pregnant sim apples for a boy, watermelons for a girl.

I've never actually tried for a boy specifically, but I've never had a problem getting girls after feeding up my pregnant sims with heaps of watermelon.

Me too.

Because I'm fascinated by Sim genetics, but don't like to play households of more than two or three people, and it's easier to have single mothers than single fathers.

there are mods you can get that do that, and there are mods you can get that allow you to make your guys wear dresses if you're in it for the fashion.

Or you could always save your game right before they give birth and keep re-starting it until you get a girl.
fingalsanteater: (Default)

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2013-05-13 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't do that with Sims 3; it was my understanding that gender is determined at conception UNLESS you do one of the in game cheats (eating apples for a boy, watermelon for a girl).
caecilia: (more of these two)

[personal profile] caecilia 2013-05-13 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I didn't realize. Sometimes my brain is still stuck on Sims 2. I meant to add that I'm not sure if those clothing mods work with Sims 3. But I'm pretty sure I can determine the gender with NRAAS...I think you might even be able to just change it in CAS mode if you want.

This feels like a Post Secret confession ('I only want daughters') that someone shoe-horned into a F!S. Why? Why would you do that? Surely you'd want to shoe-horn in the opposite direction?

Me neither. Or if all of them were boys. TBH, I'd be more surprised if you did mind - Sims' behaviors aren't very gendered, after all. (Their mannerisms are, but not their actions on a larger scale.) Why would you?

I used to play Legacies, and girl children had a significantly higher chance of being chosen as heirs. I definitely favored them.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha. My game seems to run high to girls, too. I sure don't mind; there's a lot more cute CC for girls!

(Anonymous) 2013-05-14 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely favor girls, sometimes to the point of hoarding watermelon. The only time I really let random chance drop me a boy is when I'm playing a challenge that specifically needs them or if I'm intentionally trying to flood the neighborhood with my family's genetics. (I'm playing a game I nicknamed "Fairy Factory" right now to do just that - Sims 3 fairies live for freaking ever, and can have an asston of kids over the course of even a natural lifetime, so I'm trying to overrun the neighborhood to see how bad my game ultimately glitches out over it. XD)

I favor girls for the single motherhood someone else mentioned above, for the greater variety in clothes-hair-makeup (also mentioned above) and because I love big tits. (My founder almost always has the maximum size bust and she tends to pass that trait down the line to the rest of the girls in the family tree.)
