Should I spend a couple hundred bucks on season tickets to guarantee a ticket to The Book of Mormon?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-13 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Just what it says on the tin. I can spend $200 (which I can afford) on tickets to six "Broadway" shows, five of which I may or may not see*, to guarantee a seat for The Book of Mormon.

Or I can take my chances on getting a ticket costing anywhere from $70-$150 for the one show. Judging from the season seats that are still available, if all season ticket holders go, there'll only be 100-200 tickets available for the whole run.

Or... I can just forget about it entirely.

* Three of the other shows would be interesting to see, but parking is a mess at the theater.

If parking is your issue, take public transit? That way you get the season tix, you get to see three other shows for what sounds like the price of one otherwise, and I daresay you'll get better seats. (If you wait for the general seating tickets, you're likely to be sitting in the nosebleed seats. Or behind a pillar.)

Public transit is non-existent after 7pm and on weekends. :/

Spend the $200. You might discover that one of the shows you had not planned on seeing may become your favorite. Heck, you might discover a little know stage actor that will become your latest fandom obsession. Just go.

Depends on how much you want to definitely get a chance see it. If you think the guarantee is worth it, why not? On the flip side, if you're okay with taking your chances, there's no reason to waste money on a guarantee you don't really care about.

Also, if you're getting tickets to that many shows and you want to give your unused tickets to friends or something, I can tell you that's something people REALLY appreciate ;)

$200 is pretty good, if the seats are good.

I don't think you have to forget about it entirely. The hype will die down eventually.

$200 is balcony -- either dead center but nosebleed, or all the way off to one side but the first row.

On the plus side, there aren't any obstructed seats and the sound system is really good. I may just end up being the dork who shows up with the genuine antique opera glasses. :)

As for hype -- I assume that once it dies down, the touring shows will die off.

If you really want the seat, why not! The other shows might be worth checking out like you mentioned, if you don't want to see some of them.. can you sell the extra tickets you won't use?
