I like fic with acquired disability, but hate hurt/comfort, whump, and angst.

I want to focus on how the affected character comes to cope, on them failing to cope or on how their partner and/or caretaker copes. The latter trope in particular is massively squicky and it's everywhere.

I think there are some good modern AU fics in the X-Men First Class fandom that feature this. I guess it depends on the disability type you enjoy.

Heh, I'm not really into change-of-setting AUs, but it makes sense that there'd be content from that fandom.
