Re: fandom anxiety??

I used to be nervous about joining tumblr, and, yeah, not gonna lie, I did not get it at ALL at first. Yeah, it's sort of hard to communicate with people, and there's etiquette you have to pick up on, but I've ended up liking it better than LJ, actually. I feel like I've gotten to know people better than when I was using LJ because with LJ I kind of just responded to people's fics and people responded to mine, and things never got all that personal. With tumblr, I've found fandom friends that I can not only discuss fandom with, but I can also talk to them about other aspects of my life.

AO3 isn't super intimidating. I like how it's more communicative than fanfiction.net. Authors tends to reply to reviews more often. At the same time, I feel like it's still geared toward bigger fandoms. I'm in smallish anime fandoms, so if I post a oneshot on AO3, I usually get a few kudos but no comments while I'll receive quite a few reviews on ff.net

I'm enjoying my time on tumblr too :) It IS sort of like throwing a net into the ocean and hoping you come up with something good sometimes, but surfing tags has brought people I might never have talked to into my fandom fold AND there's no awkward "hi is it okay if I add you" thing because it's kosher to just add whoever you want.

I think AO3 is focused more on live action than animation honestly. Small fandoms for liveaction stuff seem to do fine.

Yeah, I really like that about tumblr too! LJ was so awkward for me sometimes because I hated having to ask the awkward, "Can I add you " question whenever I liked someone's fics. With tumblr, you can just follow someone, and, if they like your blog, then they can just follow you back.

Yeah, you're probably right about AO3 being more live action focused. The only fandom that's big on there that I can think of that isn't live action is Homestuck, and that's probably because they can use different fonts and formatting unlike with ff.net.
