I'm enjoying my time on tumblr too :) It IS sort of like throwing a net into the ocean and hoping you come up with something good sometimes, but surfing tags has brought people I might never have talked to into my fandom fold AND there's no awkward "hi is it okay if I add you" thing because it's kosher to just add whoever you want.

I think AO3 is focused more on live action than animation honestly. Small fandoms for liveaction stuff seem to do fine.

Yeah, I really like that about tumblr too! LJ was so awkward for me sometimes because I hated having to ask the awkward, "Can I add you " question whenever I liked someone's fics. With tumblr, you can just follow someone, and, if they like your blog, then they can just follow you back.

Yeah, you're probably right about AO3 being more live action focused. The only fandom that's big on there that I can think of that isn't live action is Homestuck, and that's probably because they can use different fonts and formatting unlike with ff.net.
