I kind of agree. Yes, I miss when Moffat wasn't the showrunner, but I still enjoy the series. This is apparently doing it wrong.

"Doing it wrong" suggests the majority of DW fans out there don't like anything about Moffat's run at all, and that is the case, is it?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we all miss the glory days when Nigel Kneale ran the show in 1953.

He must've had his own Tardis, to run the show ten years before it aired.

Kneale ran a show called Quatermas in #53 which a lot of people claim Dr Who is based on, so I suspect the anony was being sarcastic about people claiming it sucks since they changed it.

I think you're going to the wrong places. For example, the Doctor Who subreddit on (where else?) Reddit pretty much does nothing but squee over episodes.

And, last I checked, Gallifrey Base LOVED everything about Moffat (and conversely hated RDJ).

As someone who can't stand the direction the series has gone (and has stopped watching and, for the most part, stopped discussing) I feel like there is a fairly even split of people who hate how the show's gone and people who love it. There are certain places that love it now and others that hate it. Find the places that best suit your needs.

"Oh, why can't they think like me. Why can't they just shut up. I must tell them what to say, what not to say because it offends my delicate sensibilities."

As long as they are not personally attacking you, why do you even care? They may even have valid points.

Just leave the forums that offend you and watch the series and enjoy them. That's the key of enjoying what you love.

"If you don't want to drown in negativity, GTFO the internet"?

Some people just want their fandom experience to involve being a fan of a thing.

This.

That's not quite what they said. If said forums suck, then find a different community to hang out in?

it's ridiculous to expect everyone else to accommodate.

Pretty much this.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That is the response of the haters in a certain journal based Doctor Who forum when you say you like the show. To demand you shut up and hate with them. Since the haters came in after the squee-ers, why should the people that like the show be the ones to leave? If you go into a dance and shit all over the dance floor, you don't get to demand the people that were there first leave if they don't like the smell of your shit on everything.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you anon. I got into DW because of RL, not because of fandom. I pretty much have enjoyed the series overall - it has it's weak spots, it's strong spots, like any television show. I didn't really see much of a problem with it... until OMG FANDOM. Every time I google for information and stumble into fandom world it's like people are bitching left and right. I wish I was exaggerating. Not that there aren't people who are genuine fans, and not that there aren't people who are sane and just *like* the show without being an extreme, but I have to wade through so much Moffatt-hate (which I still don't really get anyway) and whining in general that... yeah.

So I stay out of fandom. It's too hard to find the good spots.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome to Who fandom? Like, you can't change it, this is not a Moffat problem or a RTD problem, it's been around forever.

I understand sometimes it sucks to have people rain on your parade (I feel that way with Supernatural or the GOT tv show sometimes) but sometimes being a fan means needing a place to rant about an episode you didn't like just as much as squeeing about an episode you did like does.

I don't think people who want to rant should be kicked out of fandom or told to shut up, with Who it's particularly hard because it's such a long history and so many of us are so attached to the show, so part of the rant is disappointment in something you love.

Just try to avoid certain places, and surround yourself with people who want to squee with you. If you try to control how other people in fandom react you'll never be happy.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Its got worse with the Moffat hate, mainly because the SJWs who don't give a rats ass about the show otherwise just post allegations of misogyny after each episode because it is fashionable in SJW circles to do so.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-19 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
And people who try to claim that SJW-rage is somehow more valid than regular nerd-rage when both boil down to "how dare the series not conform to the idealised version of the series I've got in my head".

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh for real, there is one complete fucking muppet who has to shove his hater dumbassery into every post. I wish he would DIAF so I never have to see his attention whoring avatar next to one of his moaning faced posts on the fan group. Hating on NuWho, or the Moffat version, seems to be his only hobby.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone who hasn't enjoyed Doctor Who in a looong time but kind of still watches out of habit/because I'm forced to by family, I totally agree. I don't exactly have the most hectic life and I STILL have better things to do than endlessly rag on a show that I no longer enjoy.

I think it's fair enough if you still enjoy aspects but are disappointed by it overall (we've all been in that place where we LOVE something/someone but are disappointed by it/them and can't quite let go no matter how disappointed it makes you), but if you literally have nothing to say that is positive... yeah. There are better ways to spend your life. Moffat's been showrunner for years now- if you haven't enjoyed much/any of it, it's time to let go.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-18 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
...There are people who are capable of being vocal enough about hate for DW without being beaten down by the Whovians with their Sonic Screwdrivers and Tardis-shaped coffee mugs?

Huh. Yeah, that's about all I got out of this secret.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-19 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Try a TARDIS-shaped desktop case. Yes, those are a thing.

I feel your pain, OP. I actively avoid DW fandom because on the handful of times I dipped my toe into fandom all I could see was age upon page of hate, so I just squee by myself at home.

I just remember the wisdom of Franz Ferdinand (the band not the archduke): "How you'll have a happy life if you did the things you like."

If you like Who then just enjoy it! Don't worry about the haters, that's their thing, not yours.
