Well no, but her main feature in the comics seems to be her boobs as well. So maybe we should not go by comics and go more for realism (like the MCU seems to be doing).

Yeah no. You obviously haven't read the comics at all if you think her main feature there is her boobs. Not that comics artists don't annoyingly emphasize her boobs all over the place for ~fanservice~ like they do with all female superheroes, but that doesn't magically negate the very complex and strong characterization she generally gets in the comics from the writers.

SA, yes. But from a purely physical standpoint (which is what that OP is referring to), Black Widow is all about her boobs. She has some musculature in her arms, but they are still really twiggy (probably because all her weight is in her boobs).

Realistically, Black Widow would have to be a lot stronger to be anywhere near the main MCU heroes. And honestly, she will never be able to go one on one with any except Tony Stark without his suit.

Realistically, Black Widow has augmented physical capabilities in the comics, and the MCU has yet to state canonically either way whether she has those abilities, so a lack of visible physical muscle doesn't necessarily mean she's weak.

DA

Luckily, comics - and movies based on them - don't have to be realistic. She and Hawkeye are the human ones. She put herself to good use within the realm of her non-super capabilities. Perhaps in A2 she will get the modified SS serum that she's had in the comics, but it's unlikely.

In the general scheme of crazy fridgings that is comics, Natasha has been treated remarkably well, and has honestly been the more stable figure in her relationship with Bucky. Physically, her main point may be her boobs. The same way Thor's main points are his bulging muscles. People are a lot more than their physical features, though, even in ink.

Black Widow has enhanced abilities, healing, etc. She basically has her own version of the super soldier serum. If Captain America can keep up with the big guns, she should be able to as well.

because in mcu wolverine is totes 5'3", right?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-20 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
oh wait, hugh jackman is 6'2".

Hugh Jackman still looks like Wolverine despite the height difference. Aside from the height, they are built the same and have the same look.

if we're being sticklers about canon appearances, a 1 foot difference isn't big to you? my point is that the movies already diverge a hell of a lot from comic appearances so that original argument of sticking to canon doesn't work

But the foot difference doesn't change his story. Changing the Black Widow from a slinky build to a bodybuilder build like She-Hulk would. Because her slinky appearance is one of her assets. She uses that look as a tool to fool the people she is spying on. Wolverine, on the other hand, does not do this. So, the height difference does not matter.

THIS. Jackman really is a good match looks-wise. I had way more issues with Wade Wilson in that universe.

Wade Wilson was perfect!

Deadpool, on the other hand...

Wolverine isn't in the MCU.

Also, I'm slightly amused at the fact that a male superhero was sexualized for the movie adaptation more than any of the female Marvel superheroes.

And now with Loki, male supervillian is the same deal.

my point is they're not sticking to canon anyway so why not change? tony is too short, bruce banner is too big, nick fury got a race makeover

the changes don't annoy me but the comics argument doesnt work here

The spirit of the characters has been translated very well though.

And Black Widow is first and foremost a spy. You want a Buff avenger, hope they bring in She-Hulk or Ms. Marvel (better odds on the later I think). Gamora probably won't count.

Edit: Hell, if Thor didn't fill the slot I'd say tap Modern Defenders and throw in Valkyrie. Though with Thor around that's likely not happening. And while I'd give it all my money, we aren't getting a modern defenders movie. The awesome adventure of Blaxploitation Cyborg and Bisexual Mythical viking won't be on the big screen anytime soon.

? The filming seemed to make him look short enough to me.

Yeah, if you watch the directors commentary on the first Xmen film, bryan singer specificall said that for atleast one group shot they had wolvering positioned so he wouldn't be towering over cyclops. So yeah, they did try and downplay the heigh thing

This. Natasha is first and foremost a spy. The superhero thing is more of a thing that kinda happened along the way. She's a femme fatale first and foremost.

Used to dress the part too

Came here to say this. Black widow isn't really muscular in the comics, either.

Thank you. She's a spy. She supposed to not stand out as a super fighting spy. If she looked like Ms. Universe Bodybuilder, she would stick out where ever she went.
